Mass Effect on PS3 -Reporting various glitches for debugging
Hey there,
This is more to report a list of technical issues I have identified while playing Mass Effect on PS3. I'm playing the on disc version from the Mass Effect Trilogy set. I have played the game previously on 360.
- Dialogue Issues. As reported elsewhere, the first line of dialogue in a scene is often late to arrive. The characters lips move before the dialogue begins and often they stop moving while still talking. This seems to only occur for the first line or segment of dialogue, then conversation syncs up.
- Disappearing people. Often (especially during the first few scenes) characters blink out of existence for a couple of seconds before delivering dialogue. This can be disconcerting. In one scene on Virmire a character blinked around the wrong way before blinking back into the correct direction while talking.
- Conversation glitches. In general close up scenes tend to be glitchy. During the Noveria scene where Shepard talks with the Rachni Queen, Shepard got locked off camera and the camera on the queen seems to have been too close to the asset that it went through her to just a white screen. During the Virmire sequence, when talking to the Asari science assistant at Saren's lab, she and Shepard both looked to a point off screen rather than at each other. When she flees the room the camera cut to a point beyond where the characters were looking.
- Cinematic glitches. The arrival to the citadel sequence randomly activates subtitles when showing cinematics even when subtitles are turned off.
- Missing Scene on Feros. When completing the Feros mission and boarding the Normandy, the game cuts the entire debriefing scene where Liara first blends minds with Shepard. What happens is that Shepard enters the Normandy, there is a load screen and then Shepard is standing alone in the comms/debriefing room.
- Glitchy companions. Often companions seem to randomly stop following Shepard and stand around doing nothing even when there is no scenery in the way. Other times they will be locked into combat mode and continue to fire into empty air. When entering corridors they can somehow become "caught" on Shepard, leading to a conga line effect when moving around that can only be broken by switching to combat mode - however this seems to sometimes cause them to lock into place and not move around to target enemies.
Overall these problems are not so regular as to make the game unplayable. It is still a pretty good port. But these issues do crop up with regularity. The biggest problem is the missing Feros debriefing. The second most frustrating is the issue with dialogue cinematics not lining the characters up with the camera correctly.
Hopefully these can be debugged and fixed with a future patch.
