Other times they will be locked into combat mode and continue to fire into empty air. When entering corridors they can somehow become "caught" on Shepard, leading to a conga line effect when moving around that can only be broken by switching to combat mode - however this seems to sometimes cause them to lock into place and not move around to target enemies.
This drives me nuts. When I was in Noveria and was powering up the reactor before getting on the tram, Tali just sat in the first room while I was out on the catwalks killing Geth.
When I was in the unidentified space station finishing off the rachni on the Cerberus vessel, Tali and Ashley both just started shooting at the floor. Completely useless in the ensuing firefight. I just sent them to a corner out of the way and I finished off the remaining Rachni, then went and listened to the logs, at which point they reappeared and were good from then on. Up until that point, though, I was unable to save my progress because of the belief that there was still a combat situation ongoing.
Finally, the congo line is **bleep** annoying. It's like someone attached 6" hook to the back of my belt and, usually Tali, gets stuck directly behind me mirroring my every move. Telling the characters to go elsewhere and then getting them to follow again, solves the problem.
