Masseffect 2 crashes when exiting shadow broker mission

The game crashes when trying to exit the shadow broker mission. I cannot activate the console commands due to the coding of the game files. I would have assumed that bugs and glitches like this that were a very common thing, would have been fixed in a patch or had a workaround for EA years ago. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Are we talking the original ME2, cause this is the MELE board?

    If yes:

Go to the ">drive<:\Program Files ((x86))\Origin Games(EA Games)\Mass Effect 2\Binaries" folder and right click on the "MassEffect2.exe" > send to > Desktop (create shortcut).

Now go to the Desktop and right click the shortcut > Properties.

Click in the "Target" field and then use your right arrow key to bring the cursor to the end of this line (directly after the quote mark (") ). Copy and past this:

-nomoviestartup" without the quote but with the space before the (-) in the "Target line. Should look that way:

      ...Binaries\Win32" -nomoviestartup
Click "OK" and start the game from the shortcut on your desktop.

(Note: If it is not working for the "MassEffect2.exe" create a shortcut to the "ME2game.exe" and add the line there.)

If you are on a PC try to repair the game.

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)

(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

  • I already did that. I also tried reinstalling the game, I tried reinstalling the game and that one DLC last. Nothing fixes it. I tried installing the DLC from a separate download still doesn't fix it. Honestly this has been an issue for years from what I have read. I would have assumed that by now it would have been fixed or EA would have no longer carried that DLC. I'm not normally a big fan of using command console to port characters to other places. But that option isn't available either. When I looked it up and followed the instructions to activate it. The line it is suppose to be on isn't there. The one that is closest to the E21730 is just 21730 and codes are different and the changes there still don't work.

  • Got the exact same problem on the Mass Effect 2 (2010) Edition on Steam, nothing I've tried works (running in windowed, lowest graphics settings, the -nomoviestartup launch option, Windows 7 compatability mode).

Even if I offer Liara a tour of the Normandy, the game crashes immediately after she leaves.

  • Thank you very much. That fixed it. Tour awesome 👌 👏 😎

Happy to hear you got this working. Shadow Broker mission has always been some of my favorites in the game.

    @holger1405

Not a problem, I managed to fix my problem a couple of hours after OP lol

In case anybody else has this problem on the Steam version of Mass Effect 2, right click it in your Steam library, then go Properties > Installed Files > Browse, and then double click 'Binaries' in the Mass Effect 2 folder.

I then right-clicked ME2Game.exe, and then 'Create Shortcut'. I then right-clicked the new shortcut, and in the Target box put " -nomoviestartup" (INCLUDING THE SPACE!) immediately after the text already in it, clicked Apply. I then ran Mass Effect 2 as an administrator through the new shortcut. I was finally able to get off the Shadow Broker's ship without the game crashing, and can now get back to playing (and launching the game as usual through Steam) without any issues.

Thanks for the help to all the other forum-goers, hopefully this will help anyone that's tried lots of other options that haven't worked.

I see my link was not working correctly. This should work too:

Right clicking ME2 in your Steam game library > Properties > add " -nomoviestartup" (without the quotes) into the "Launch Options" field at the bottom.
