ME 1 hangs on launch.

Purchased via steam, but the issue occurs when running through steam and directly running the .exe. Compatibility modes for both XP SP2 and XP SP3 tried, patch 1.02 installed, ran the DirectX installer directly, running in admin mode, have rebooted. Game launches (the splash thing appears, then vanishes, and the game tries to go fullscreen) but hangs at a black screen there. CPU is running hard (90%+) and memory taken is fluctuating during the freeze, but it's not responding as far as Windows is concerned Let it sit for several minutes without success.

Comp is a piece of junk but well above the requirements - single-core 2.7 gig processor, 3 GB RAM, a relatively recent (if low end) AMD Radeon 6450 video card. Running Windows 7 64-bit.

    As far as I know, the least powerful Radeon from the HD 6nnn generation that is good enough is the HD 6570.

    @Cranica

    The age of a substandard video card doesn't matter.  Only the performance capability matters.  You have not returned to the Answers HQ website since the question was handled.  Replies here at AHQ are not copied out to send via eMail.  You must read them here in the forum.
