ME 1 PS3 gamebreaking bug in Virmire mission

(Spoilers ahead) I'm after the cutscene where Shepard makes his/her selection who to save before the bomb goes off. I selected Kaiden to be the one to die. There's a door that's supposed to open leading to an elevator and confrontation with Saren but it won't open. The game is unplayable since this is a plot killer and I can't advance. Now if ASHLEY is selected, the door DID in fact open.

I've reloaded an earlier save(still selecting Kaiden to die) and still I get stuck at this point. Is there a patch in the works or what? Seems rather onesided if my choice doesn't matter. Will there be a patch to fix this ?
