ME Andromeda Multiplayer - "S" guns and general rarity issues
Please tell me that the gold frame is just a way to distinguish the new "S" guns from their regular counterparts while they are still considered common weapons! I guess not...
Does that mean that they will now sit beside all other rare weapons in the respective loot tables? Probably, so - not good!
Rare weapons are already too numerous, making it noticeably harder to grind for them after unlocking all commons and uncommons.
They also make it harder to get ultra rares if one has a lot still locked.
Adding the S guns to the pool is pushing our coveted N7s even farther away from us.
I know you want us to play more in the long run as opposed to unlocking everything in the first couple of months and then forgetting about the game.
But this is a cruel way to achieve the opposite.
My suggestion: If "S" guns are as good as advertised (suitable for gold difficulty runs), then leave them where they are.
HOWEVER
You should seriously reconsider the categorization of the other rare weapons.
Right now, the gold frame on most rares does not correspond with their quality at all.
They have poor or mediocre damage at best, awful accuracy, miniscule clips... All in all - unpleasant to play with casually, let alone brave challenges.
You have to demote some of the current rares to the uncommon category because otherwise opening item packs for ultra rares will become an unbearable drudgery.
Here's an overview of the current state for those who haven't thought about this until now:
-4 common weapons
-10 uncommon weapons
-28 rare weapons
-15 ultra rare weapons
This is NOT balanced. The cheapest weapons being the easiest to get, while the most expensive ones are 3 times more and all crammed in the same item package.
Come on, let's be honest, nobody's opening expert packs as long as there's just a single guaranteed rare inside.
So, this means that, if things stay the same after today's addition, we will have to open hundreds of premium packs until we unlock all rares and ultra rares.
And I was talking only about weapons all along, not even mentioning characters.
I love what you've done with multiplayer and with combat in general. IMO it's the best run&gun experience since the series started.
But I don't know if I can physically withstand spending that much time to get the prize. And if the prize is out of reach, well, then there's no incentive to keep playing...
Considering the improvements that came with today's patch 1.08 and the discussion during the accompanying multiplayer livestream on Twitch, I'd say my concerns were addressed and expectations exceeded.
Huge thanks to the development team for watching, listening and caring despite all the unabating negativity (which I may have unwillingly contributed to 😳)!
I still believe in a bright future for Andromeda as well as the Mass Effect series as a whole.
Here's hoping that the people who put their hearts and souls into making MEA great today will be part of that future, because they deserve it a thousand times.
