ME:3 & ME:A Multiplayer Join/Invite Friends Not Working in EA app

*PLEASE HELP MASS EFFECT MULTIPLAYER COMMUNITY*

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer
and Mass Effect Andromeda Multiplayer no longer have functional invite/join feature via EA app (and I hear other platforms). Originally only EA accounts made in 2018 spring and later were unable to host private Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer lobbies, and joining them via invitation privately was impossible (back then when Origin was a thing and had overhaul that broke friendlist feature).

Everybody can still host public matches and tell friends to search for specific coordinates: enemy, map, difficulty, which may result in finding wrong lobbies, or random players taking our friend's spots so we have to kick them, and is overall inconvenience, not to mention that it leaves bad taste to multiplayer community as this "kicking players" behavior rate increases. We can still send invitations to friends via in game EA app overlay, and friends can accept them, but they can never join, aka never enter inivted lobby, that they can find if they search for it if host sets it to public. Mass Effect Andromeda case is now even more problematic than Mass Effect 3's, since MEA search is region wide, so if friends are too far away they cannot find each other anyway and both end up in solo public lobbies, even if they have room for 3 more players each. Sometimes a third party VPN can help, but it usually ends up with disconnection as soon as lobby is found.

We have been reporting this bug to EA for 5 years now and every communication with any EA Advisors for the last half decade contained "We are working on the fix as we speak" messages. But the fix never came. Instead, from around couple months ago, now in 2023, every account, not only those made after 2018, but all accounts of any age, and not only Mass Effect 3, but also Mass Effect Andromeda, have the same failed to join errors, this bug has simply spread and affected all Mass Effect Multiplayer players world wide on PC in both games ME3 and MEA (and I hear consoles are having issues too but cannot confirm myself as I do not have a console). We attempted more communications multiple times with EA Advisors in last couple of months, and were told the same that "They are working on the fix as we speak".

Please, someone at EA servers and team, someone in charge and control over this kind of stuff, talk to each other and solve this problem by fixing EA app or updating ME3 and MEA. Half decade is a very long time for EA to do nothing about its basic friendlist features, such is joining a friend's game. I am the founder of the N7 Squad community that has been home to Mass Effect Multiplayer for 9+ years, where thousands of players are waiting and hoping for this fix, so please reach out to us in case you need player testers or anything we can do to contribute to solving this problem together. Thank you for your time.

FIX RELEASED - Post Marked as Solution for Visibility

    Hey hey everyone,

Our sincere apologies for not really updating this thread, but that's because we unfortunately didn't really have anything to share... until now.

We have received reports from our teams that the issue now has been 100% resolved and also people with post-2018 and pre-2018 accounts should now be able to create and join lobbies again, which should count for both Mass Effect: Andromeda and Mass Effect 3.

Our request for you: Could you please give it another try and let us know how it goes?

    Many thanks in advance!

    @EA_Leeuw

I tested in ME3 and ... it worked! ... MOSTLY.

I have 1 old (pre-2018) account (this one) and TWO post-2018 accounts.

All the accounts can successfully invite or join from any other.  So that part is "100% fixed" as you said.

Related: there was also the issue that if a post-2018 account joined a lobby or match (either from invite or just from joining a gip (game in progress), and the host dropped, they were also dropped from the lobby/game ("Your connection to the game has been lost"). So I tested that too.  Oddly:

ONE of my post-2018 accounts was automatically rejoined (i.e. lobby or wave restarted) when the host dropped.  So that too appears to be FIXED!

BUT, the OTHER post-2018 account still has the same problem, getting dropped.

I can supply the ID's of the other (post-2018) accounts.

[EDIT: it appears this is a PC, not account, issue.  That is, the post-2018 account that is on my laptop gets dropped when host leaves.   If I run that post-2018 account on my desktop PC, it no longer gets dropped.  Whereas the other post-2018 account will get dropped if I run it from the laptop.]

  • I just connected to a friend's lobby in MEA and got disconnected after a few seconds multiple times. So, that one is not fixed for MEA. When we join someone else's lobby we sometimes get disconnected within 15 seconds. Trying again does not fix it. Sometimes changing the host player will allow us to remain in the new lobby and play missions but that works only occasionally.

My account was finally able to invite and get people in, however, I was unable to takeover a lobby once someone left, whether mid-game or before a game. Attempted on Saturday the 11th.

This issue seems partially fixed, not sure how widely applicable it has been for new accounts like mine, but thanks for the involvement. 😃

    Hi @Kahoucta-N7S, @DoctorDAM,

Disconnects are a connection issue, not an account issue.

We’ve got basic and advanced troubleshooting steps on EA Help to help you with your connection. Try these steps first to see if they help you stay connected while you’re playing:

    Basic: http://x.ea.com/ea/basic-connection-ts

    Advanced: http://x.ea.com/ea/advanced-connection-ts

@FulicaAtra, a new host did not automatically get assigned? If that doesn't happen, the workaround is to leave and create a new lobby.
  • Correct, @EA_Leeuw .

The host was not designated to me when my friend left, there were only two of us in that instance. But this specific issue is academic, the main problem seems to have been solved for ME3. Thanks again.
  • @EA_Leeuw @EA_Leeuw, thank you for your reply. I understand the Andromeda issue is not an account related issue. In fact, I was not aware of any account specific issues in Andromeda but you had mentioned it was fixed there too so that got me confused, I guess. I looked at the links you posted. The basic troubleshootings are irrelevant since 99% of the time I have no problem at all. However, whenever I get the 15s timeout problem, it will be constant with that specific lobby only. The second link you posted does not seem to be available to me as I get the message "Oh, right. That’s us! We’re having trouble loading this page, but we’re working on it".

    @EA_Leeuw

    Thank you for your reply.

I agree that what I experienced is clearly not an account issue (as it followed the laptop, not the account I used on the laptop).

For me, it's not that important as I rarely use the laptop for ME3, however for the sake of "science" (and others), I tried to delve deeper.  So I followed up on your links, but to no avail.

The first link (which suggests clearing EA cache and/or changing DNS) didn't affect anything.  I tried both.

The second link, as @Kahoucta-N7S experienced, gave me the same "Oh right,..." message

To be clear, my "connection problem" is the one where you are in someone else's lobby or game.  That person leaves.  Rather than the host changing to me, I'm dropped from the lobby/game with the infamous "Your connection to the game has been lost" message. As shown in the last attachment on my (alt's) post.

And I note that since your team's fix...

    1) My invites from the post-2018 account can now be accepted by others (laptop or PC).  In the past, this account could not successfully invite someone (as outlined in my linked post).  So this fix worked regardless of account or PC.

    2) My post-2018 account when on desktop PC, does successfully follow host migration when the original host drops.  Which it did not previously.

However, all my accounts (post-2018, or pre-2018) when on laptop, do get dropped when host leaves.  So not an account issue, but some odd remaining connectivity issue.
