ME3 MP Challenges: I don't get it...

I know ME3 is an old game now, but I've within the last year gotten into the MP part of it. I like the cooperative style of game play. HOWEVER... I just do not get the "challenges" and how to achieve them. I have been unable to find any explanation as to how to accomplish any of them, and/or what they mean. I've read that promoting classes helps, and I've done that with every class that has reached level 20 and started over, but I don't understand how to complete any specific challenge. Help?

    Welcome to the game!

You can check your Challenges status in-game, or via the nifty PC N7HQ website.  I took the liberty of looking up yours (assuming this is you, playing on PC):

    N7HQ

Look at the Overview and Challenges pages.  Also, the Inventory is a great way to check out what stuff you've acquired.  And the Character page lets you see all your builds.

In-game, it is the last entry on the main MP screen.  Note: you cannot access Challenges when in a lobby (maybe a smart move by Bioware to keep people from wasting their squadmates time).

Most of them are self-explanatory.  For most, you just use the specified gun, or power, and get points by damaging and/or killing enemies with them.  They are grouped in "Mastery's" which require you to complete X (out of Y available) of each set to get the extra Mastery challenge completion.  For character-based ones, it is either get game extractions, or just complete X waves while playing that character.  For Map Mastery/challenges, complete waves on those maps.

The one you mentioned, promotions, counts towards the N7 Mastery (and also increases your N7 Rank, a separate rating from the Challenges rating).

So basically, grind, grind away and you'll start completing challenges.  It is set up to ( a ) keep you playing and (b) entice you to try different kits, powers, difficulty levels.

    Enjoy!

  • Okay! So it looks like I achieved one of the challenges. How do I apply the banner to my thingy before a match? Can't figure out how...

First, banners become available after you complete their respective Mastery.  Not for just completing one/some of the challenges under a Mastery.

{Edit: the only one you have so far is "Tech Mastery"]

    Two ways:

    1) From in-game, click the Challenges.  Click the desired Mastery you've completed.  Click the "Set Title" on the lower R, next to the "Back" button.

    2) From N7HQ.  Way at the top, click the tab "Challenge Awards".  Or you can go to Challenges, scroll down and click "Select your active challenge award".  Note1: for these methods, as it says, "you must be logged out of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer for this selection to take effect"

Note2: there are more optional banners for a given Mastery available via the N7HQ.  These were added later, but many of them no longer work (you'll just see a rainbow background).

Note3: you only see your banner in-lobby.

  • @DoctorDAM Frustrated. If I look at my N7 HQ profile it clearly appears that I should be able to display the Tech Mastery, Matemagician banner. But, I cannot. In-game it won't let me, and on the N7 HQ page when I click on "Select your active challenge award", it takes me to someone else's profile, someone named SGS Snake Fist. Irritating...

In this case, you should contact EA directly and have them take a look at your account.

    • The link to EA's Support is here. If you are not from the US change the country in the top right corner.
    • Choose "Contact us" (Top Bar) and then Choose "Origin" from the list. (Or search for it.)
    • Choose PC > Choose "Manage my Account" > "Can't log in" > Select contact Option.
    • You should get a chat option now. (Please note the business hours.)

You also could try EAs Support on Twitter or on Facebook.

@holger1405 I feel king of stupid. Fixing it was as easy as logging out of my N7 HQ account, and then logging back in. Derp!
  • There are some challengers, to wit those under "Mass Effect", that give no indication as to how to accomplish the challenge. E.g. (one of many) Shotgun Mastery. I saw this and decided to use whatever shotty I fancy more often. I haven't gotten any closer to achieving this challenge since I started doing this. It doesn't tell you at ALL how to get this. Any answers? There's well over a dozen challenges under this heading that give no clues how to get these challenges.

    "no indication"??

    This is your N7HQ:

This one is from mine in-game:

  • Derp. Well, I was looking under another heading that didn't have the specifics of the challenges in question. Thanks.
