ME3: Why are Collectors so overpowered in multiplayer?
Having just, for the lack of a better term, 'enjoyed' a gold multiplayer match with Collectors, featuring a team that would've cake walked any other opponent on gold, I went searching for whether there has ever been an official explanation/excuse/comment/whatever for why the designers decided to make Collectors ridiculously overpowered compared to all other enemy types. Seems a wild goose chase, my Google-fu didn't turn up anything.
Of course, that may just be Google's algorithm no managing to negotiate several years' worth of player discussions of the fact and how to deal with it.
So I was wondering, is anyone aware of any official explanation/excuse/comment/whatever on why Collectors had to be stupidly overpowered compared to Cerberus, Geth, and even Reapers?
If so, could they kindly point me to it?
While they're definitely more powerful than other races, I don't think they're overpowered.
I agree with David's speculation that they're harder because they were added later. In fact, around the same time they buffed the geth and Cerberus by adding geth bombers and dragoons.
I think the difficulty of the races is in part determined by your play style. I think the best characters to use against collectors are the heavy hitters. A salarian infiltrator with a Widow sniper rifle seems an ideal counter against praetorians and possessed abominations.
