There's no need to do any mining. You get more minerals with 2 scans on foot than you do having a probe sent down that instantly depletes the area. There was one place on H-047C I got some decent minerals from a probe, but other than that, over 90% of minerals have been acquired on foot, 5% from vendors (since there is so much money and not much worth buying), and the rest from probes.
If actively mining a planet gave us Andromeda points or even just some dialogue on the Nexus about how all the resources are helping, it might be better and seem more immersive. I'm not sure why a Pathfinder would need to manually collect so many raw materials anyway. Scouting locations so others can do that (cryo beds?!?) makes much more sense. Of course, having to 'purchase' equipment on my own spaceship, like in the other ME's, is a little irritating. Research I can understand. I remember some dialogue from ME3 where Shepard actually asks about buying things on his own ship....
Right now though, it's just a mechanic in Andromeda without much point.

My experience was very different than yours regarding on foot verses mining probes. Especially with things like element zero and platinum. But it's been awhile since I've done any mining so I'll give it another go but generally, it seemed like I got significantly less elements on foot.
The other things you state I completely agree. This thing where I am responsible for everything is not only inefficient but annoying. I am find with finding a path to resources for others to collect and I am given a percentage of it while the rest is allocated to the Nexus, Arks, and Outposts but this me needing to do it all.
BUT, if I have to do it all, I feel like that needs to be improved and some of the suggestions here would do that for me.

Sorry if this has already been posted:
I agree that the mining is a bit ... ugh.. at times. What I have noticed is that you can unlock RESOURCE pods as the game progress. One of those pods is a resource gathering pod. They give you a hefty amount of return every hour or so. This is one way you can avoid mining. And it is unlockable very early.
Hope this helps.

You're right of course. The pods can help but that creates another annoyance where I have to return to the ship or else it stops collecting those resources.
It's a pain to be in the bathroom on ship in the first place, it's another to be in the bathroom and my watch goes off and I have to hurry to the console to get minerals so the timer will start again.
But I am going a bit off here. It's not like I don't want mining to be part of the game. I just want it to be better than it is rather than something I try desperately to avoid like headlock noogies from Drack. His arm may be prosthetic but his armpits are not. It's gross under there.

Ha! Yeah, I hear you on that.
One feature I'm wishing for is being able to GO ON SHIP WITHOUT TAKING OFF EACH TIME! because that would save me (and everyone i'm sure) a huge headache about going to the ship and "doing A B C".
And yeah, avoid Drack headlocks. And headbutts. He's got spike old age krogan spurs. Damn things break skin on us squishy humans fairly easy.
- 9 years agoYes, it's one of the cryo pods, but I think the problem is having to go back to collect the bonuses all the time. Delivered every 45 minutes? I just spent 12 hours of game time clearing all quests on 'New Tchunka' without visitng the Tempest. Delivered once per day, or simply to the Nexus, of which some use can be made by the Pathfinder, is imo a better option.
If I want to play 'collect 12 of this or gather 20 of that' I'll start a new WoW account with Blizzard. It really breaks the story to have the Pathfinder have to manually press the button to collect stuff. Doesn't he have a crew?- Anonymous9 years ago

Ummm Gill, Suvi,... someone. Can you press this button every 45minutes. THAAAAAANNNNKS.
- 9 years agoThe only thing I had a shortage of was uranium, which was fixed when I got to H-047C. Every dome has a lot of minerals inside the rock formations on the building side.
