Missing .dll file issues

I recently bought the Mass Effect Trilogy and installed Mass Effect [1] using Origin. I am aware that the game has compatibility issues with Windows 7, so after the inevitable occurred (I first opened Mass Effect normally  without using compatibility mode and it crashed as expected) , I ran it in compatibility mode. It seemed to start perfectly, but then an error message appeared, and it read "The required file ssleay32.dll is missing". I am aware that .dll files are associated with DirectX, so I checked the the game's "binaries" folder under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binaries" and was surprised to find this elusive "ssleay32.dll" file alongside all the other .dll files. So, if the aforementioned .dll file isn't missing at first glance, why does that error message appear? Also, will reinstalling Mass Effect solve this issue?

Thanks

  • I downloaded Ccleaner, ran its registry repair service, and then Mass Effect worked. Thanks for the help!

  • Thank you for the advice. I reinstalled Mass Effect, and opened it in compatibility mode. However, the same error message regarding "the necessary file ssleay32.dll is missing" still pops up. How can this be fixed? Is it perhaps a flaw in the disc?

Have you tried the other suggestions on that webpage I linked to?

I tried every option on that link, except for the hardware fixes, like testing memory and hard drive (ME2 & 3 play just fine), and nothing worked.  Has anyone been able to find a solid fix for this?

I just purchased the game. I've run in Admin I've done the compatibility check I've un-installed and re-installed both origin and the game. Still a no go. It still says I'm missing the Ssleay32.dll file even though it's there Any I've tried all that came up on the net like a registry cleaner, it didn't work. none of it has. My laptop is only 8 months old.

[solved] I have the same problem with C&C. I followed protomolecule's advise, downloaded CCleaner and repair the registry. And it works!

  • Hey I have the same problem and I can play changing the compatibility to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) O hope it can help to you 🙂
