@holger1405
I understand your opinion, but let me just share mine with much more detail (it will be very-very long, sorry for that), if you don’t mind.
You are right, it’s a remastered with almost all DLC-s, I never wanted more… on paper, this is the best thing can happening with the franchise, but as a long time fan of the series, my opinion is this: LE is less than the original, in many-many ways.
I played hundreds and hundreds hours with the original vanilla versions on PC on Insanity difficulty. I love this series, almost as my favorite game, Half-Life 2.
I loved the story, the visuals, the gameplay. I played it many different ways, and sinked hundreds of hours in the ME3’s multiplayer with people I never met before, and we became to friends. So, as you think, this game is very important to me, because it’s still very unique to this day.
So, I dare to say that I know this game thoroughly. Visuals and gameplay is very important part of this games, and sadly, LE is damaged in both aspect.
A remastered should be better looking, than the originals, am I right? On the surface, LE looks and feels better: 4K, some very good looking textures with smooth 60 fps on the newer consoles. That’s great, very great.
ME1:LE looks very different, compared to the original, but not that’s the problem, I like the new look. The original art direction is very professional work, but it’s not appealing for my (and many other’s) eye. I like the new looks in most cases.
The combat is much easier in ME1:LE, it’s not a bad thing, but maybe not as good either. The original is much challenging on harder difficulties. The RPG elements are simplified in LE, but I know, that was the goal. It’s not a bad change, just not objectively better, but I still liked it in this form.
ME1:LE is a real remastered, without major issues. It can be hated, or be liked. ME2-3:LE’s case is different. They do not changed much, but they introduced many new problems compared to the original PC versions.
ME2:LE’s new lighting in the most cases is just worse, the shadowing on the characters is less impactful, and in some cases, it’s even hurts to the storytelling in character introduction scenes (Shadow Broker is fully light in his room from the start, as like Aresh in Jack’s loyalty mission) and in other scenes. It’s just more artificial and less handmade than the originial.
Then comes other big visual issues: black bubble under the Human Reaper, little skybox textures on Menae, broken Quarian fleet destruction animation, completely broken lighting in the end of the Ardat-Yakshi Monastery level and the list goes on.
And we don’t talked yet about “little” details, like less detailed holographic interfaces in ME2, missing cube- and shadowmaps, broken animations and broken camera placement.
And the gameplay: a few missing war assets, missing 3-melee combo hit, and some falling enemies can’t stand up unless they get more damage (and boom… my first LE run with Vanguard is get broken on combat side too). And who knows what other new bugs in we do not see yet.
You don’t have to believe me, just watch Scifiismyjam comparation videos and you will see many issues what I talked about it.
So, we got a re-relase, with a remastered first game, and with damaged sequels, without Pinnacle Station DLC, and ME3 multiplayer.
So, what we got aside from the tons of new bug and missing content? A few, and in most cases, less important bugfixes, a remastered, but not objectively better first game, a launcher and implemented DLC’s in a mediocre way (like DLC weapons only available in the stores and not on the actually levels). And that’s enough or better than the original? I think not.
If someone bought and played the originals with the DLC’s, than really nothing new here for the veteran players. The new textures looking good, yeah, but textures are not everything, LE is badly damaged on a visual level, this can’t be fixed with new textures or mods.
I do not want exchange visual and gameplay quality for a launcher and some better looking textures. I just really wanted a simple, complete edition on console, but LE is just too damaged. I do not want bugfixes for the old bugs, but for exchange I do not want big new visual errors like what we see in LE.
Free DLC-s for the original games and a Microsoft Backward Compatibility resolution update for the Xbox 360 version (like with the Orange Box) would be a much respectful and righteous way to bring back to life this classic, but that’s against the most important thing: profit.
This would be my favorite way to play this trilogy, if they had taken proper care of it. It’s just hurts so much if you see for yourself when noticeably the interest in money kills something you love so much.
LE should not be the legacy of this trilogy, it’s just too unpolished for this important task.
My expectations are very high for Mass Effect, I know (much higher than many other games), but a fan is just like that. But Mass Effect or not, LE is just a much less polished video game product, than the original games or most of other full priced modern games.
I was disappointment in the visuals and in the gameplay too because of the new problems, so sadly, this game is the disappointment of the year for me.
