[Old Report] Poor static lighting quality in ME1 and 3 of ME:LE

When I heard that work was being put into the lighting of the trilogy as well as textures I was excited.  I saved up to buy a copy, only to be sorely disappointed.  While the texture work looks acceptable now, the static lightmaps that are used in ME3, and to some extent ME1 haven't really been updated at all, with jagged stairsteps visible on many static environment shadows.  See here:

Are there any plans on updating the baked lighting to these games in a future update?  ME2 doesn't suffer from this issue.  And it's crazy that I am seemingly the only one that noticed this.

Also, disappointed that there is no decent AA option built into the game other than poor quality shader-based AA.  UE3.5 DX11 supports MSAA natively.

EDIT: What I would like to know is will there be something done about it?  With many lightmaps being only 256x256 it shouldn't be that hard to do a 2-4x upscale and denoise/filter ALL of them so they aren't so pixelated in game.

  • I will be posting further screenshots to twitter, and a couple of videos on Youtube to show the problem spots.  Is there any way someone on the ME:LE team can chime in on this?  Or is this post going to get relegated to the dustbin of history? Screenshots with examples highlighted below.

    Omega has some of the worst lightmaps.

    These are just a few examples where the quality is awful for GPUs and systems with both 8GB+ VRAM/16GB+ Sys RAM respectively.

    @s1r_b1unt

    AHQ is first and foremost a gamers help gamers board.

    CMs can and will report Game issues to the Studio, but that someone from the studio actually posts here is unlikely.

    @holger1405How do you suggest I get a hold of Bioware more directly, then?  Last I knew they closed the Bioware forums years ago.

    @s1r_b1unt

    You could try Bioware's Twitter and Facebook page.

    But imho, if they wanted to change the lightmaps they would have done it before release.

    @holger1405

    It's a pretty big thing not to change, for all the hubbub about the upgraded lighting in the lead up to release.  Between that and the upgraded textures it's the only reason I bought Legendary Edition...

    Thank you for trying to help.
