Problem with Garrus/Archangel Recruitment Mission-Screen Black Out

I'm having the same problem as this person did, but it was never resolved, so here's a quote of their problem:

"During the Garrus recruitment mission, just as the last fight begins, the screen fades to black. I can hear the combat music and i hear the sounds of Sheperd as I move him around - but the screen is pitch black. Also I don't get shot at - but I can still use my gun. It's just that the screen is black. How am I supposed to complete the mission when I can't navigate my char and I don't know where the enemy is? Or where Garrus is for that matter..."

The only reply was to change the view from fullscreen to windowed with border or without, but that didn't change anything for me. I've played through ME2 before, but have only run into this problem after downloading the most recent patch. I played all the way through ME2 on this laptop before, so performance shouldn't be an issue.

Please create a DxDiag and post it with your next reply. You can do that  with the "choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

  • Have you got your in game console enabled?

    If so...try..

    ViewMode Unlit

This gives a crappy resolution but at least it will get you by the problem area.

    Worked in ME1 anyway.

Your GPU driver is not WHQL certificated, what means it wasn't installed through Windows update.

Did you got the driver at the Toshiba website or directly at AMD?

  • @holger1405

I downloaded it from the AMD website after an EA Support rep linked me to it when I was having lag issues with Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Well, that makes things more complicated.

I would still recommend that you preform a clean installation with the latest GPU driver for your notebook from the Toshiba website.

Laptop drivers are often tweaked for the specific model.
