@Rickdaily12 My best guess would be that, ME/2 Had their own steam versions. As well as being an Origin Game.

When they moved to Store exclusivity for their digital games to try and sell EA Access, they forced the Origin Client to do all the licencing checks for the game and DLC etc, The same thing that Steam does, but instead on Origin.

I imagine this was because they never had it planned to Drop this exclusivity and return to steam. Now rather than spend the effort on making a port and changing how their games verify things, they just threw the Origin Exclusives on Steam.

However Origin has built in security to stop people tampering or messing with it to achieve undesirable outcomes, so they have a lock where if Origin is opened by another app, It restricts what you can do so that you cant tamper with it.

All they need to do is add an exception to Steam and allow it to "mess" with Origin so that settings can be changed.

For some Reason what EA support cant seem to get their head around when you raise a ticket is that the Origin Overlay causes problems with the game. No matter where you bought it. But because with Origin or CD you can find the solution with a quick google and Disable of the Overlay, no one raised a ticket about it.

Now because we cant disable The overlay when Origin is launched Via Steam (due to its security measures) The performance issues that were present upon launch and in ALL OTHER VERSIONS NOT JUST STEAM cant be fixed.

I would assume that a Fix from EA wont happen and it will be someone releasing a mod that stops origin from Launching at all and just Fakes the Licencing or permissions like the Quick fix for Mass Effect 2 DLC (now that Cerberus network is down) As EA never released anything to help with this even back for ME 2.

The overlay isnt just a problem with Mass Effect either, a quick google shows that it affects a wide range of games including SIMS 4.

Just adding my voice to the pile. I have the same issue with the Steam version, the game runs just as poorly on my Ryzen 5 1600 and RX 480 as it did back it the day on an FX 6300 and Radeon 6970. I've read, like many others have, that it's related to the Origin In-Game Overlay, and it simply refuses to disable it's self for me to even be able to confirm if this is the case.
I disabled it both in Origin's general settings as well as Mass Effect 3 specifically.
I also disabled Steam overlay.
I even tried reinstalling Origin.
I've included a link to a screenshot of the Origin Overlay running despite it reporting in-game that it has been turned off:

my 2 week refund period does end shortly... and apparently refunding the Steam Version can cause the Origin Version to disappear with it yikes....
I hope this get fixed soon i'd like to enjoy ME 3 on Steam and have it appear together wth ME 1 and 2

That's false, I did my tests on the overlay after refunding, since I couldn't launch the origin version with the steam one installed. Just refund it and buy again later once/if it gets fixed.

Absolutely not false because I lost all access to the game upon refunding the steam version. I bought the Origin version back in 2012 and suddenly it wants me to buy it again, along with all the DLCs. What a mess. I'm not sure exactly how you can screw this up this badly.

To meet with the refund criteria, I refunded the game almost two weeks after buying the game on Steam. Sadly, no fix or solutions have been found on this problem and I had to talk with the EA support to get the game on my Origin account again because apparently you lose your Origin copy as well if you buy the same game on Steam. I'll stick with the Origin version for now.

Perhaps it's because I bought my key from a different location than Origin? Either way, I've somehow ended up with 2 playable copies and my refunded copy all listed.

The FPS issue for Mass Effect 3 Steam version has been unofficially fixed. Check the below post for details. In short you'll have to install the program / software Reshade and apply it on Mass Effect 3 and that's it. Buttery smooth FPS. Still waiting for EA to officially fix the issue. Until then, this will be the unofficial solution for FPS drops in the game.

@HunterKillerGael Just installing Reshade does literally nothing lol it just adds another injector on top of the Origin Overlay and Steam overlay making things worse. No idea why people recommend that it makes literally no sense to be honest.

@Fayaine I know its not the ideal solution and the official solution / fix should come from EA...but installing Reshade on Mass Effect 3 actually does work. I was skeptical too thinking the exact same thing but after hearing others feedback that FPS issue was fixed with this method and trying it out for myself, I was kinda dumbfounded. Maybe Reshade does some overwriting to the Origin overlay or something. Anyways. It works and for now, this is the UNOFFICIAL solution for FPS issue for Mass Effect 3 until EA fixes it themselves.

We know its an injector, but did you actually test it? I can't as I've refunded, but I'd be interested to know if it works.

@Xarovin I did. Literally 30 minutes ago. Both before and after especially at the areas where there were guaranteed FPS drops. Applying just the Reshade on the game does the trick. I even tried the game with FPS unlock tweak and I literally got around 200 FPS where I used to get around 40 because of that Origin overlay issue.

@-Scr34m1k- Follow that guide properly. Install the latest version of Reshade from the official website. Download, install and check all the boxes, download all the Reshade related files. it worked perfectly fine for me. I'll probably post a video of this here in a bit to actually show you guys that.

My rig is an I7 4790K, GTX 1070, 16GB ram, running on Windows 10 version 1909 update. Mass Effect 3 is on Steam (Obviously). Also, I disabled Origin Overlay from Origin both from Application Settings and right clicking on Mass Effect 3 on Origin (Steam version) and disabling it that way. Also closed Origin full before starting Mass Effect 3 so that the game launches Origin thin version. Donno if that's gonna help or not but yea.

@HunterKillerGael Ive followed tutorial, dont worry, i can read..
The game just doesn't start when reshade itself is present. Even with the "basic"/"no effects" installation.

Besides, i have a very fair question.. Why am i suppose to resort to "hacks" to make something broken (which i paid money for) to get "unbroke" ?

@-Scr34m1k- Damn. That sucks. Probably your have some different configuration that's not going well with Reshade. Either way, starting the game with Reshade fixes the FPS issue.

But you're right about the second part. We shouldn't have to use this third party method to fix the game's issue as we paid money for this. But until EA themselves fixes this issue, this is the UNOFFICIAL fix for now
