I actually think that is pretty good writing... some horrible annoying out of the blue nick that I'll have to work against. I'm up for it.
Good or even bad natured teasing can be pretty funny. Some of my loudest laughs at the first series were crewmembers messing with Liara with the Yahg or about dinosaur bones. Shep should of got poked at more often.
Can't say I'm a fan of Sloane but I get that some people prefer her over Reyes. I tend to pick Reyes but to me it's really a choice between to evils if you will.
I don't really consider her a killable character though. I don't get to kill her. I only have an option to save her. So she maybe saveable not killable in my book, if you can appreciate the difference.
I just personally dislike Sloane because she's got a couple of traits I just really don't like more than the bad traits of Reyes.
The interesting thing is that you need to help Reyes as part of the the path to getting Kadara settled. So in essence you build a relationship and then suddenly you're supposed to choose between the two?
It would've made more sense if you had a choice to help one or the other. So yeah, I do get it when people feel BW prefers people to choose Reyes.

Why Reyes remains alive no matter what after the decision, but not Sloane, is anyone's guess. It could be that since he's possible romance material they didn't want to kill him off... or maybe they really liked his final emails. Personal guess is they're going to fit him in with plotline again. LOTS of choices in the game were: bad or worse - pick one.
I can totally see them setting up Reyes to be the big baddie. Just like in DAI, egghead turns out to be the big baddie. We shall see if they keep taking romantic interests and crushing our player character's hearts!
