Re: Mass Effect Andromeda minimum system requirements

The ugly rumor thats been going around is their trying to have the games minimum requirements include directx 12 for the effects which would sadly make it windows 10, anyone using windows 7, 8, or 8.1 would not be able to play, by not releasing that info they could get people to pre-order for the pc without knowing that the buyer might not be able to run it. One thing leading this rumor is that on EA's Origin all windows 7,8, and 8.1 uses were given a message saying that Origin would no longer be supporting some features on those OS's. Personally, i hope the rumor is wrong, i love Mass Effect and would hate to miss out on Andromeda.... but i just cant upgrade my OS, I myself am on windows 8.1.

That is simply absurd.

Even if if BW or EA would decide to make Andromeda a DX12 only game, something that as @Fred_vdp rightly said would limit their market potential, (and not only by a small margin) all people who pre-ordered the game could return it according to EAs Great Game Guarantee, so it only would increase EAs administrative cost.

I hope your right, I truly do. we'll just have to wait and see next month when is when they said they'll finally announce the specs

@badmojo88 I haven't heard this rumour but I have to agree with Holger, I'd be very surprised if this was the case. 

While I'm sure there will be a DX12 option for the game -as in BF1- Frostbite 3 games have all had DX11 support and I don't see this changing any time soon. 

This is speculation of course and not official until we get the specs, but I wouldn't worry too much yet. 

I think there's also no real visual distinction between DX11 and DX12 because the upgrade was about performance gains. DirectX 12 should look pretty much identical to DirectX 11 in this game, only it runs a bit faster.

DX12 supports multiple GPU's while DX11 doesn't. This is why DX12 is important for many players, especially those with SLI ot Crossfire PC's. DX12 also is important because of how it uses the multiple GPU's and the CPU. Basically DX12 is better for many who have 4k setups, it offers better FPS and 4k graphics.

This is inaccurate. SLI and Crossfire have existed since long before DX12. (SLI is from 2004, DX12 from 2015.) The difference, however, is that DX12 supports multi-GPUs of different brands, so you can combine Nvidia and AMD GPUs. Previously, the GPUs had to be of the same brand and family.

One benefit is that people with one dedicated GPU can use integrated graphics for smaller tasks, whereas otherwise the integrated chipset would be idle.

I don't know if the Frostbite 3 engine supports it, though.

Well, if BF1 is an indicator it probably does not, at least not out of the box.

BF1 DX12 didn't had neither SLI/Crossfire nor heterogeneous mGPU  support. (Don't know if they patched that jet.)

well rumors are one thing but here is the fact: its made with frostbite 3, developed by dice and implemented in a lot of recent games. It already supports windows 7,8 and 10, and dx11 and 12. I really wouldn't worry about anything being dx12 'only' for a long time.
