I just finished the legendary edition with all achievement unlocked now, the offline mode for ea app is the easiest solution for steam users and maybe even for those who bought it from EA app. I don't know why people still use the firewall trick. of course if you forget to do this everytime and launch me2 or 3, you have to delete the local_profile from the save folder and you will lose progress for the achievements (overload / inicinirate)

So just so we're all on the same page, you have to make sure the EA app is offline BEFORE loading up ME2 or ME3 from the launcher and if you at anytime forget to do this, you have to start from scratch correct?
Seems a coincidence how the app was always hitting me with a cloud-save sync issue upon start up. I'm beginning to wonder if it's related to this.
Yes. When you start the game from steam and loads to the Mass effect laucher, you have to put the EA app to offline mode BEFORE loading ME2/3 or it will think again that you have all achivements unlocked in the ingame and have to delete the local_profile to reset the achievements to zero state.
If you forget (like I did few times) you don't have to start a new game after deleting local_profile, but you will lose progress towards achivements that have counters like use overload x times. Story mission still unlock normally, but you might lose access to bonus powers if you already had them unlocked (this happened to me in ME3 when I forgot to go offline and lost all my bonus powers from the medbay after reset)
If I had to speculate, when you launch ME2 / 3 it pulls some data from the servers if online and writes it in the local_profile that has current progress for the ingame achivement tracker. Why it does not affect ME1 is mystery to me, maybe achievement data is stored differently for that game.

I wanted to follow up on this and let everyone know that we are still looking into this. I have sent steps from everyone to be reviewed. I am glad that the workaround steps have been working for the most part.
There has been an enormous amount of feedback on these achievements which has been amazing. Even though updates from myself do not happen as quickly as I would like, this is still something that is being tracked it may just take longer to have reviewed by the team than other issues.
On another note, I would love to see everyone's commander and the builds they love to play with!
I spoke to soon. The Broke, Blind & Bedlam acheivement didn't pop in-game or in Steam yet shows as unlocked in the acheivements screen after killing Hock.

Thats unfortunate. Did you try the mission again by deleting or moving the gamerprofile from ME2 save folder and going offline in the app? if that does not work it might be a different bug
it's probably general achivement didn't unlock bug that happens sometimes regardless of a game and the achievement is always different to different people. It can be bit disheartening when it happens.
@Jerec89Hey thank you for this, its worked great! Just one question, do you know if resetting the achievements affect the achievements such as Paramore, completing all games on Insanity and using same sheperd in all games. As I have already completed ME1 and have had to reset achievements in ME2. Sorry if I havnt explained this very well
It should not since I had to reset the achivements few times during my ME3 playthrough because I forgot to go offline. still got Insanity / long service just fine. And just to be sure I always checked that the difficulty was Insanity before loading save game after reset.
I bought the game on the ea app and setting the app to offline does work for tracking the achievements in game. But is there any way to sync the achievements back to the app? Since the app is always offline when the game is running, the achievements don't show up in the app (or on exophase).
The way I understand it is, that as soon as I forget to set the app offline once, I will have to reset my profile and since the achievements aren't synced, they will all be gone. So, if that is true, it's not really a solution for ea app users, it probably works with steam, because it syncs the achievements independently.
UPDATE: Okay, some (but not all) of the achievements I unlocked while the ea app was offline just popped up in the app after I set it to online again after playing. So it does seem to work, it's just not very reliable.

I wanted to jump in on this and let everyone know that we are still looking into this and a few other achievement issues that have been reported to us over time. I love aiming for achievements and I kudo everyone who does the insanity mode ones as I don't dare test myself in that one.
I know some issues take longer than others and it has been a hot minute with these, and I wish I had a more fixed update but I do not yet have one on when these will be updated.
There are workarounds as we can see and I get it isn't the same but I am happy to see that they have worked for a lot of you.
I love this game, and I want to see all my fellow Commanders having an awesomesauce good time saving the galaxy. When we have more updates, we will let everyone know.
Noticed this issue when I was quite a bit into 2, first time playing and was enjoying the game so I didn't notice that they weren't unlocking till now. I'm sure I'll do a second playthrough at some point so getting them right away isn't a concern, I know you said that this is still being looked into but does that mean that these will get fixed eventually in the future or is there still a chance that this never gets solved being too far down in the list of issues.
Was thinking couple of times playing through ME2 that seemed odd not getting achiemevents, but didn't pay much attention. At least not until I didn't get Insanity II after completing the suicide mission. Luckily can confirm that the workaround of deleting the local data setting EA App to offline mode after having the launcher works. Replayed the last bit of the suicide mission and got the Insanity achievement.
You'd think though that these things would be solved after couple of years. Then again, Origin barely saw any improvements over its 10+ life, so shouldn't be that suprising I guess. At least games are now back on Steam, unlike the original ME3 which was one of the only games I've had to get through Origin.
Community Manager@BuGi00 Happy to hear that those steps worked. Not always ideal and the team is aware but at least it is working well enough to keep playing.
It is now nearly July 2023, and nothing has been done to remedy this situation.
I own the game on EA. I bought the games from Origin. Steam has never been involved, and still this is a problem for me. For everyone! If only the galaxy would unite, but I am no Shepard.

Signed up and posting for the first time ever, as this is the only way of communication with EA. No email any more - communityexperience (at ea.com) is now rejecting replies. Live chat doesn't exist for me, all support is directed to the forums.
It's been over two years- in that time there have been updates done to ME, to EA app, and even to Origin (though only to disable it).
While semi workarounds exist, they are very fragile and not suitable for the dozens of hours of game time. What's more they barely work on steam Deck (or linux in general) due to how Steam launches the EA app for the game, and closes it after exit.
There's a more particular problem here: how could a hypothetical fix tell the difference between legitamate achievements and the bugged all unlocked ones? Unless there is metadata (e.g. unlock time all the the same time is suspicious) then there is the risk of removing legit achievements. So instead, why not "simply" allow removing achievements manually? No risk of error, no need to retroactive fix accounts.
Of course, a perfect fix is preferable, and you would think with all the other data being harvested this is withing the ken of mankind.
I'd delete my old EA account in a heartbeat to fix achicements on steam, but perhaps other people are more attached.

This response though, screams to me - "This is still a beta product. It is not ready for release, it should not have been distributed in this state."
That these things are "deeper" problems, honestly makes me want to puke at this point. It makes the developers of this software look like rank amateurs, and their bosses greedy sycophants.
EA App is not ready for prime time. Needs another year in development at minimum. I would say it is embarrassing, but it affects me everytime I play one of my EA games so it is not embarrassing, it is frustrating and hard to reconcile. I will say this again - the policy of forcing this broken app on us has guaranteed that I will never purchase another game at full price from EA. I will never buy a title that is not EA exclusive, from EA. I will only buy from key resellers if there is an EA title I must have, so that EA makes the least amount possible.
In the terms of my beloved ME3MP, you have hostilized the neutrals. You didn't neutralize us, you hostilized us. I am actively hostile against EA to everyone I speak with that has an interest in gaming. They mostly feel the same way. I hope the short term profit was worth it, because you're killing yourself but you don't believe it.

Same ol' issue as everyone's describing except even the origin workaround is basically inaccessible because of that stupid un-bypassable popup telling us to install EA's busted ahh launcher...now im out here looking for workarounds to the workarounds. Side note, its actually kind of nuts how quick the origin client workarounds get patched as soon as one is mentioned on the forum. hmm. ironic. 2x salt in the wound since 1. two years no fix on this, 2. we know from the aggregate of posts in these EA threads, plus all the mentions on reddit, steam, and plenty of other random forums, that the problem occurs when the game forces us to connect to EA and its likely broken cloud-save-sync-system.
that the PRIMARY workaround for this is dependent on not letting the EA App even touch the internet while the game runs is incredibly telling
On top of that, I am almost less frustrated by the issue, and more by how long this problem has persisted with no information. Not being able to hunt down the issue in the last 6 months, let alone the last two years of apparent investigation, while people, including (apparently) the team that's allegedly working on it, are still reproducing the error, is kind of insane.
The lack of info on the topic makes me wonder if a fix has been proposed but swept under the rug for being expensive? Or if the root issue has already been found, but EA is more worried about disseminating that info to the players for who-knows-what reason than they are about fixing it? Because if EA is not trying to fix this, why not let us make a better workaround? Look, its not really a secret that the way the og games worked with origin's network was based on complete spaghetti (probably did wonders for anti-pirating) but its hard to imagine that two years of 'investigation' have turned up...nothing? zero updates? no information? no indication of a fix? no indication of any movement?
Has the root of the issue even been pinpointed? Any working hypothesis? literally anything?
i know a lot of us feel like this problem is being ignored, brushed aside like its not gamebreaking or whatever, especially when other games are making more money right now and I've already forked over my 60 bucks. I can only hope we'll see our first real update on a fix right before the next Mass Effect gets launched, but I'm not optimistic. I guess it doesn't really matter to EA, why would they bother incentivizing replay when their business model is based so heavily on selling one-time-use products?
We'll continue passing that along as well and will hopefully have more actual information to share before too much longer.
2 years is crazy long for an investigation to turn up nothing. if there's no one looking into this, and no one is planning to, why not just say that?

haha thank goodness I'm not alone here crying over my never working achievements for ME2 and ME3. Absurd that something this trivial has not been fixed yet. EA, you need to do better! It's been years!
Almost 2 years and still no fix. This is beyond pathetic. POS EA Play is the culprit, and EA refuses to even let us at least keep using Origin.
