Re: [Old Report] Mass Effect Andromeda wont open after new patch

In case it helps, I had the same problem: Missing api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.

- I tried updating VC + 2015, but the install would give me an error and could not finish the installation.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53840

- I tried the KB2999226 updated, and it would say "Update does not apply to your system"

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2999226/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows

In my case my problem was that my Windows 7, did not had the Service Pack 1 (SP1)  installed.

I installed the stand alone SP1 update (KB976932) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842

After that I had no problems installing the KB2999226, and then the VC + 2015. Now the games RUNS! Finally!

Thanks to everyone for 'pitching with ideas and workarounds!! I hope this bit of info helps!

EA... what a hot mess guys!!...

@gitaarprofeet I removed your post as it was disruptive, was a call to action and could impede the troubleshooting that's taking place in the thread. Please do not make such posts again or they will be removed. Nevertheless thank you for posting the information you have, this thread has a lot of very useful info.

@Darkybot Your post doesn't seem to have been removed, is this it here? http://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Escalated-problem-game-won-t-luch/m-p/5993753#M8842

In some cases they may be temporarily held and checked as a form of spam protection, perhaps that's what happened here.

Thank you to everyone who has posted in the thread, both troubleshooting and the details of their manifestation of this issue.

As far as the disruptive nature of my post I disagree, but I can understand EA wasn't pleased with it. Let's just call it my dark sense of humor.

As far as my so-called 'call for action' I don't understand the ban against me personally. More than one poster asked for a refund in this thread and suggested others might do the same. I guess you guys at EA got scared by something else I suggested which I won't repeat here cause it will just get removed again if I would. You know very well what that part of my post was about and I believe I was well within my right to simply mention that option. EA removing that post is just telling me I might be on to something here... which is not a smart move cause I wasn't really considering it seriously before... You know, the dark sense of humor thing...

Having said that. I will now stop adressing this issue in this thread and will only post here again if I actually have something technical to share.

P.S. Fix this thing and all your troubles will simply go away!!!

  • I couldn't find it before probably it went to the bottom cause no replies, but can you guys please tell us if they are working on a fix? It's not our end, it's the update that screwed the game.

If only EA would just put up a 'pre patch 1.05 version' for download, every single one of us could start playing again before the day is over. EA can then work on a working patch and offer that when it's working properly. Everyone's a winner!

    Hello Sir,

Glad to see that someone in EA is looking at this thread. So we can assume that your company is very well aware of technical issue.

    Here's the thing.

To open an account and post here, i had to agree to click "Yes"on a "Terme of use and condition" button

To install Origin, i had to agree to click "Yes"on a "Terme of use and condition" button

To install Andromeda, i had to agree to click "Yes"on a "Terme of use and condition" button

I played 30 hours, on the product i bought, and WITHOUT clicking  "Yes" on a "Terme of use and condition" button, an UNWILLING  and automatic uptdate, broke my game.

All my software ask me FIRST, if i want to install an update, except is THIS very case.

And after tried all the solutions on this thread, NOTHING worked. And i'm pretty sure that a thrity page discussion, around 10 diffrents solutions to make work again a perfectly viable product,
proved that the technical issue IS NOT SOLVE.

So, according the fact there's STILL a technical issue, on an unwilling update, on a product that perfectlty worked, can you tell us that, at least, EA is working on a way to give a chance to some of his customers to GET BACK TO THE PREVIOUS VERS. of the game please ?

Thank you, and have a good day.

I saw your deleted post and I personally found nothing wrong with it. EA deleting it makes EA appear to not care about their customers. I wish EA would be more open and honest with us, but instead they appear to want to hide things from us by deleting posts.

Is this forum explicitly made for the purpose of troubleshooting? I am new on here, and I am serious about this question.

EA is not the only company to roll out with a faulty patch for a video game. This is far more common than many people seem to realize. The amount of work that goes into developing video games is massive, especially when the game is cross-platform.

So let me be the first to say, Thank You EA for such an incredible game!

Can you explain in detail what is wrong when you try to run the game? Sometimes my mind works in ways that seem odd to people because I come up with solutions that seem unlikely to work. Then people ask me "how did you know that". I don't know the answer to that question. An example is: My video card is not compatible with AMDs Duel Graphics crossfire. I could not get my mind off of figuring out a way to use my APUs 8 graphics cores without using the on board video. I did find a non-crossfire way to do this and it boosted my dedicated video cards performance.

So ask me and I may have answers for you.

Thank you for the posts, I appreciate how frustrating this must be.

As for those who have the issue despite trying the usual fixes, there are some more steps we'd like to take.

We're looking into some more advanced troubleshooting using some sensitive tools, so I'd like to ask if someone is willing to assist with this and can PM me. We'll only need one user so please don't be offended if you're not chosen

Please be sure to have tried the following steps, as well as the other tips mentioned in the thread.

    • Disable crossfire
    • Repair game in Origin
    • Updated Windows
    • If you get a black screen, run the game in windowed mode. Press Alt & Entr to toggle to this.
    • Reinstalled the game

If you have tried these and want to assist with the next step, please send me a PM with details of when would be an appropriate time to be contacted.

  • Here is the thing dude...  The game worked BEFORE patch 1.05, and AFTER Update... RIGHT AFTER, the game refuses to start, i am not lifting a finger to fix YOUR problem, your patch broke my game, then YOUR patch will fix it, but at this point i must admit my faith in EA has completly broken down, i am uninstalling mass effect andromeda and origin and never touching any of your damned to hell * ever again... you refuse to even acknowledge that its a problem with your patch... im done with Bioware, im done with EA and im done with Origin...

Edit: Origin and Mass Effect Andromeda uninstalled.... im done...

    @Agglea

    Edit: Specifically, the ap-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll issue.

After repairing the game, trying the offline option, repairing C++ files, reinstalling the game etc., I tried the windows update for universal C runtime but my computer very stubbornly kept stalling midway through. I'd spent hours trying to make things work and I was getting frustrated so I gambled that if I uninstalled the game, updated from Windows 8.1 to 10, and reinstalled the game I might be able to step around the issue.

Unfortunately my computer is now getting stuck in the middle of updating to 10, at "Checking for Updates...," for hours on end. Therefore I haven't exactly been able to follow all the way through on the current strategy. But I figure that has nothing to do with the 1.05 update and is either because A) my computer is encountering a separate problem or B) what I am seeing is normal/not unheard of and I've been quitting too soon. I have two computers (laptop and a desktop) so it's not a patience thing, but I worry about my gaming rig running too hot and abort after three or four hours of no change.

I'll definitely try again before I throw in the towel and call my IT guys.

I've have upgrades to newer versions of Windows sometimes succeed and sometimes fail. I find that the most reliable method of installing windows is to do a clean installation.

I still can't play this game. EA specialists keep emailing things to do, yet what they suggest does nothing. I click play and the loading wheel pops up for like 5 seconds, then nothing. I have done EVERYTHING posted here, and then talked to three specialists. This is absurd, I am beyond irate that I can't play the game I payed for and was enjoying. NEVER AGAIN EA, never will I buy a game with your name on it.

Unfortunately, the game will not work with SLI or Crossfire. I had to uninstall my video driver, then I had to remove my 2nd gpu. I know this is not something you should have to do, but for now, the game will not run with multiple gpus.

Don't know if it's already been posted in this thread, but following solution from another thread did it for me:

    Hi all!

I just wanted to present this solution for anyone else that after the patch just got a black screen when trying to launch the game.

Possible fix #1 Head on over to "my documents" and rename the ME: Andromeda directory to something else. This forces Origin to re-download any save game files, while also creating new settings files. For some this has solved their problems.

Possible fix #2 Head on over to the installation dir of ME: Andromeda and remove the .exe files for Andromeda/Andromeda Trial. This forces Origin to re-download the .exe files so you have the latest version of them. For me, this was the solution- for some reason these .exe files did not update as intended after the patch.

Hope this helps anyone else facing the same problem! See you in Andromeda!"

    fix#1 worked for me
I renamed folder [...]\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Andromeda and clicked on Play afterwards.

The game started with standard settings and created a new folder - after quitting the game I copied everything from the old folder into the new one and started again.

All savegames and settings are there again
