This isn't the first time they haven't documented changes and it won't be the last, they just don't seem to give a damn about providing players with the changes to single player despite people continuously bringing it up to them. If you look at every patch this game has received, the single player changes have been vague. Oh but those multiplayer notes are always quite informative. It really goes to show you where their priority is at the moment.
They also fixed the bug that let you make credits using the merchant on Kaadara.. they didn't document that either.
I wasn't surprised, I was expecting these things to be patched, but I do agree with the OP that doing nothing to increase research points makes it really hurt. I used the research point 'exploit' and actually found that it made the game more enjoyable because it put the research rate more toward where it should be. The current system discourages experimentation with different gear because you simply can't afford to put points into something you won't end up using.
I prefer mostly Milky Way Gear, and that's even tougher since it's the hardest of the 3 to acquire. The Cryo Pod perk helps, but it's still pretty tough to keep up.
It's curious that they didn't list these 'fixes' in the patch notes.

I won't speak for anyone else, but I hardly think I'm 'crying' over it.
I would classify my stance more as 'mildly annoyed' then anything else. I don't mind them fixing the exploits, that's what they're supposed to do, but I do agree with the OP that not fixing the issue with research points was short sided at best.
