A reply to an old post for Steam users, but I had the same issue when I reinstalled ME 2 and all the DLC with steam. And what worked for me was to view the library< right click on the game < select properties < then click on Set Launch Properties< then type -nomoviestartup  in the blank field < Click OK and launch the game.

    This saved me when I was stuck in Lair of the Shadow Broker. Didn't get to see Liara come to the ship but none of the other options work.

    For SEO optimization: Mass Effect 2 Lair of The Shadow Broken Crash When Leaving Ship Steam see the above solution provided by bakgrind. Also, this is properties in Steam, not in the application itself.
