Matter of taste. Hornet is burst, Hurricane is full-auto.
Go for Hornet if you prefer precision/headshots.
Go for Hurricane if you want point & spray.
Some augments behave very differently semi-auto vs full-auto. Anything specific you are looking to use?

Hurricane with seeking plasma augment? If you are lucky you can find one (or both) in the hidden crates if you haven't opened all of them already and try them out without researching them first.
However i skipped using smg's almost entirely. They dont seem to pack enough punch for me, but i tried Hurricane with turbo+seeking plasma and it was fun. You can say goodbye to headshots though which i didnt like.
Personally I use Hurricane (story mode) on my biotic, it does a lot of damage really fast and it is easy to use on the move, not to mention that sweet a@# FX when you shoot it, one of the best weapons FX in the game hehe :eahigh_file:

in mass effect SMGs are mostly for stripping shields at short range, or at least that's how i use them. for that particular reason they seem quite useful to me.

Equalizer + conduits and you've got your "shield-be-gone" right there.
