Coincidently, only you had a scan at that time! And you were the nearest person to the console. 😛 But I suspect that scans are not that common either. Ryder has come out as a Recon Specialist. It might be something particular to his position.
Regarding the spoiler:
Sorry for sounding like a jaded old man(maybe cause I am hehe)... Looking at it objectively, it's cause you are the guy playing the game and it's another fetch quest lol... Just like Liam telling you to go download some movie when he's standing 5 feet away chatting with some security gal. Or later on, having a drink in the bar whilst he pushes the responsibility to ryder. I dont think you need pathfinder access to download a vid. (oops almost forgot the spoiler tag... let me cut and paste this)

Stop being a jaded old man! Lol, I'm kidding.
But of course there's the fact that you're the player and that explains why when things are left to chance they go a certain way but that doesn't mean that there are not and or shouldn't be in story reasons for things.
For instance, the Archon choosing to do what he does to the person he does it to, after reading some of the comments here it actually makes sense due to the memories and due to him wishing the two of you could have something more than an adversarial relationship. Not quite love but perhaps just spending some time together and you reject that so now he wants to stick it to you badly.
And for plenty of other quests, I can see why they ask me to do it but I suppose I was wondering if there were some, any, or a lot of quests where you felt like the reliance on you made little to no sense or like things were getting out of hand.
Some Person: "Ryder, my leg fell asleep. Can you help me put my shoe on?"
Me: "Oh come on! You passed like 4 people to come over here and ask me that!"- ApprovedAnonymous8 years ago

Me: "Oh come on! You passed like 4 people to come over here and ask me that!"That could help with something regarding priorities. Like ... having a history of helping others. The more you helped, the more people would ask you to help. Maybe some quests and tasks could never trigger, if you often turned people down.
"Oh, he helped you cure the Genophage in Andromeda? Yay, perhaps he can help me developing a new medicinal rectal probe!"
or
"Ah, I head he didn't let your sister live. I won't ask him to shave my mother's legs then."

Haha. Oh no. Now I hate the research center, lol. I wish you could refuse quests though and that closes them out but that's something I don't think I've ever seen... though my gaming experience is rather limited in my opinion.
