Random civilian salarians that did not sign up to be put in a dangerous situation vs krogan scouts that knew they were scouting a dangerous alien race.
It makes a small difference. Basically soldier vs. civilian.Everybody signed up for dangerous situations. Nobody knew what would happen on this incredible adventure. The fact that the Krogan were actively fighting the Kett seems an odd reason to make their lives worth less. Survival is still a numbers game and the Krogan have two strikes against them: Very limited numbers by comparison and an uncured Genophage in their case.
No, not everyone signed up to be a combat heavy. In fact, most of them don't even know how to use guns. Drack's scouts, OTOH, are picked by him on ability over looks.
I think the idea was that everyone signed up for a leap in the dark with uncertain results and death as a distinct possibility. Also, while Raeka may be trying to free civvies she could also be trying to free STG or the guys who sold out the ark, we don't know.
I picked Sarissa and didn't tell anyone about what she did. I felt that she made the right decision with choosing to save her people instead of one person. There's no need to drag her name through the mud in the process, although I have a feeling a later game in the series might bring that out and drag me down with her.
I was really torn about the Raeka and the Salarians vs. Drack's scouts. I actually left the game at that choice to think about it overnight. In the end, I picked Raeka for reasons completely not mentioned above - I'm hoping that I can romance her in a later game. Hey, you never know...
