Steam Keys for Mass Effect

EA has hands down the worst responses for my cases. I have 3 cases pending for almost a month now, and it takes 2 weeks for them to give half-hearted replies. I'm hoping to get a reply from the community that might help resolve the issue.

I bought the following games from Steam, and I have issues with getting a working CD Key.

1. Mass Effect CD Key "requesting" forever. This happens because there's no more CD keys left to give. New players have to request the CD Key from EA to access it from the launcher. The Steam Forums has made it clear to me that only EA is able to help with this, and many players have had this problem resolved by contacting EA Help.

2. Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe Edition. I received the DLC Keys for EA (Origin) but I did not receive the base game key. So again same issue, I'm currently waiting for a support staff to help me with this.

3. Dead Space 2 - Key received was invalid, and I am unable to activate it in EA.

I filed reports for all 3 during the first week of April. I'm already past the 2 week refund grace period from Steam and I haven't even gotten a response yet. It's so frustrating that I have to exhaust all means of contacting EA (Twitter, Instagram, etc) to get an appropriate reply, especially when the advisors attending to my case on EA Help seems to be utterly incompetent. I really don't mean to be rude, but all the replies for all 3 of my cases have been pretty much copy-pasted after a 2 week wait, and the fact that they don't bother reading my replies or respect my time really angers me. Someone, please help ;-;

    Hey @b3nvfx,

Sorry to hear you've been having some trouble with multiple keys here.

Just to clarify as you mentioned buying the games from Steam, were these purchased from their storefront directly, or did you purchase codes to redeem via Steam?

As you mentioned a Dead Space 2 key being invalid I did just want to make sure these were all received from Steam directly rather than just being claimed there.

In most cases you'll just need to link your Steam and EA accounts for it to properly register a game you've purchased, which it should then do without needing a key to be manually input.

In situations where you've already linked your account and it's still prompting for a key however, I'm afraid you would need to reach back out to speak with support on this further as we're unable to make any changes to your account via the forums, sorry.

  • Hey @EA_Mako,

    Thanks for the fast reply!

To elaborate further, I've purchased the game directly from Steam. Usually, when you purchase certain older EA games from Steam, you also get CD Keys to activate in Origin. You can verify this by right clicking on the game in your library, and clicking on Manage > CD Keys. Most of the earlier titles I've purchased from EA has managed to activate with no issues. It's just these 3 titles in particular that have these issues.

I've already linked Steam and EA accounts, but these games aren't linkable through EA and thus won't show up in my library. Most of EA's older titles won't show up, and only the newer ones will link automatically. For others, you have to link them manually by using the CD Key EA provides. For Mass Effect 1, the CD Key won't reveal itself and it'll be "requesting" forever. EA temporarily stopped giving out keys to fixed some bugs a while back, but hasn't re-supplied the key since. For new players, the only way is to contact EA to get a replacement key. Many others on the Steam forums have reported the same issue.

For Mass Effect 2, I was one of the unlucky ones that did not receive a key for the base game. Many others also had the same issue. It's pretty random, some managed to get it without any issues, while others have to contact support regarding it. I managed to get Working CD Keys for the Digital Deluxe DLCs, but did not receive the CD Key for the base game.

For Dead Space 2, the CD Key received was invalid entirely.

The 2 main reasons I want the CD Key is firstly, to activate the game in EA and have it show up in my EA Library, and secondly, to be able to download the DLCs from the EA App. These DLCs aren't readily available from Steam, and I have to manually install them through EA, as I did without any problems for Mass Effect 3. I personally don't think it's too much to ask for a working CD key for a game I bought full price for, when many others have managed to receive them in the first place.

I'm still waiting for support to give a proper response. I have a very sour impression of my experience with support thus far. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

Yeah I'm having the same problem with Mass Effect 1, and Spore Galactic Adventure and Creepy & Cute.

I contacted Steam support and they asked me to contact EA support, but  now the EA support page wont allow me to create a ticket, It only sends me here to the Answers HQ.
I just want to be able to upload my creatures in Spore ☹️

    Hey @zeddparis,

Which options are you selecting when trying to create a new case?

After selecting Mass Effect and "I'm looking for something I bought" (your code), it's currently showing me the option to email support.

EA Player Help Services - Contact Us

Available contact channels can vary slightly depending on the selected category and your region, but this one should be related to the issue at hand and get you started with that process.

  • Hey @EA_Mako,

I've emailed them using the link provided and am currently waiting for a reply. Will update here when the problem is resolved.
