Transitioning to PC - having button-mapping issues.

I've been on the Xbox long enough. A year ago I invested a bunch in a custom computer and got ME3 for PC so it wouldn't go to waste - but then I spilled coke on my keyboard and shortly thereafter became incredibly broke 'til just now. Anyway. I could never quite figure out how to properly map functions to my mouse, and now that I've replaced my keyboard, I already foresee myself having issues trying to map things to the 6 G keys provided.

My mouse is the Logitech G700. My keyboard is the Logitech G710. On the mouse I essentially have 15 different buttons. Left click and right click are quite straightforward, while the rest get a bit tricky. The mouse uses profiles and is supposed to automatically change to a particular profile when a corresponding application (or game) is opened. It has never done this, and I've not been able to fix it. Anyway, each profile contains a set of functions assigned to each of the buttons. The problem I have is that, though the software provides placeholders for button functions, when I assign these, Mass Effect doesn't recognize them when I try to map my button layout. I have four buttons on the side, perfect for Medigel, Ops Pack, Ammo Pack and Missiles. I have three buttons on top by the left-clicker. Perfect for the three multiplayer powers. Then I have the wheel up/wheel down, both of which act the same when I assign them to anything in ME3, so I just use that as 'change weapon'. I also have wheel-left-tilt and wheel-right-tilt which I don't really use. Wheel click I used to change cover. Lastly I have a button below the mouse-wheel that would only make sense to use to change mouse profiles, 'cept that feature doesn't work, nor would I want to hit it by accident if it DID work.

My previous resolution was to create a profile for the mouse assigning each of its extra buttons to keys on my number pad, but since multiplayer is different from single-player, it caused an issue switching between the two. Every time I wanted to play a game, I had to go into the mouse settings and change the profile manually, and then I couldn't use my computer like normal again until I changed the profile back. If I wanted to go to campaign from multiplayer, I had to exit the game and change profiles - just minimizing the game didn't work for whatever reason. Aside from the profile issue, I foresee the same issue with my 6 G keys on my keyboard - not being able to map them in Mass Effect if they're assigned the placeholder functions the software provides.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Anyone familiar with these two products and possibly the issues I'm having? Ideally I'd like to simply open Mass Effect and not have to tell it to swich profiles but be able to use all the extra buttons as previously mentioned. Is there a chance I'm assigning the Mass Effect profile to the wrong *.exe? What functions should I assign the extra buttons to so I can map them on Mass Effect? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry,

I have used a few Logitech mice on the PC with Mass Effect.  I like the mice well enough, and have customized them and used them for all 3 games, so it works.

    The profiles work, sometimes.

When launching, it feels like there is a 50-50 chance of it recognizing the profile and using it.

I always, after launch, go to the Key Bindings screen, and "Re-Bind" one of my special keys to see if it works.  If it doesn't, alt-tab, checking the profile, and alt-tabbing back, then check the keybinding again has worked in the past.

Most of the time a 2nd launch will do the trick.  (Quit the application, and re-launch it)

On rare occasion a 3rd launch will work.

On my laptop or something is bad, I remap all the special keys on my mouse to keyboard functions, perhaps k or l if it's something "new" or one of the standard buttons if I just want powers 1-3 to be quickly accessible.

I do not know about your keyboard, but I bet similar gymnastics will be required.  Verify the binding, and once both mouse and keyboard work, do not quit until you are done.

If it has software, you can try remapping those special keys to standard keys.

While you are at it, you might want to look into this:

Then you can set specific keys for sprint, Use/Open, Revive, etc... Instead of everything being tied to the spacebar.
