Unable to Launch Mass Effect 3

Attempting to launch Mass Effect 3 from Origin and I get to say Launching and then nothing happens. It is not in my task manager or anything like that.

Attempted Reinstalling Mass Effect 3, Repairing it, Running the game as an administrator, Running it in compatibility mode for XP SP 3, Win 7, and Win 8.

Also tried the solution from http://answers.ea.com/t5/Mass-Effect-3/Mass-effect-3-will-not-launch-on-windows-10/m-p/5430887/highlight/true#M21911.

Issue listed below. DxDiag attached if needed.

That is of course you decision, but don't worry about my time, I wouldn't be here if I would see this as a wast of time. 😉

What I would try next is to install the game to a different HDD.

    Deinstall ME3 > reboot

Create a folder named "Origin Games" (Without the quotes) in the root of the drive ME3 is not installed yet.

Change the location of the game Library to that folder. (In Origin, menu top left corner > Origin > Application settings > Installs & Saves > On your computer > Game library location.)

You don't need to worry about installed games, the location of this games will not change and you also can change the location after the installation of ME3 again without rendering ME3 unplayable.

    Install ME3 and test.

Installed at the root level of the C drive since I don't have any other drives other then a backup data one.

Attempted by default after install, Reenabled cloud saves (this got the launching message on origin at appear again).

Downloaded and moved awc.dll to the new binary directory in the moved repository. Restarted, Tested again, and then disabled cloud saves before testing again.

Moved EACore.dll as well then, restarted,  and tested.

Crash details are the same as before. With the updated filepath.

Question, the "awc.dll" you downloaded is 912kb big on your hard drive?

There are two possible game related issues here, the corrupt "awc.dll" or a corrupt save game or game profile.

So, don't enable cloud save again. Game Library > right click ME3 > Game Properties > "cloud save" > uncheck cloud save, also check Origin > Application Settings > Installs and Saves >Cloud storage > to be "Off"

Also don't change anything I told you to do before if I don't mention it, running Origin as Administrator for example.

After you disable cloud save again > close Origin > move the entire "Mass Effect 3" folder from your "Documents" folder to your desktop. (The "Save" folder you moved before from the "Documents" folder contains your savegames, right?)

Also move the old DLLs out of the ">drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32" folder > start Origin > test

yes it is 912 kb as opposed to the old one which is 914.

cloud Saves were off at both Origin and Game level when I stopped prior (and I will stop testing the few configurations each time now). I have been running as administrator each time.

Moved the whole folder over. The save folder is still empty and has been this whole time. There has never been a point on this computer that I have gotten in and thus it made a save game. Removed and took out the old dlls.

    Same notification on launch.

I thought this through again, and at this point I think this is a Windows issue and not a game issue.

There are several things we could try from here if you are interested, but that is of course your decision.

Let me know if you are interested.

Yeah I think I am probably going to say no. I just got my computer back from being in the shop for two weeks for GPU issues I wasn't able to resolve on my own, and they said that they had to completely reinstall the OS to fix it, so while I would love to think its something small to do at the OS level, its more effort then it's worth. Thank you so much for trying and everything but I am just going to move on.

I've been banging my head against this issue for a week or so, trying various combinations of the below to no success:

    - turning cloud saves on/off

    - moving existing saves in case they are corrupt

    - turning off Origin in game

    - replacing/removing/repairing awc.dll and EACore.dll

What finally fixed it for me was a post from 2013 - http://answers.ea.com/t5/Mass-Effect-3/Mass-Effect-3-will-not-launch/td-p/1108260

-> In ...\Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32, I renamed atiags.dll, to make it appear that it was gone. Game fired right up, and has continued to do so.

For context, my specific errors I was getting were:

This is on a machine that played 130+ hours of Mass Effect 3 when it came out originally, but has had a couple of GPU upgrades since then, and runs Win10 instead of Win7 now. One of those GPU swaps was to change from team red to team green. Though I will note, this error persisted through Origin and Mass Effect 3 reinstalls, so I'm not sure why that ATI file is even present.

Hopefully this helps someone else who might be looking to mess with ME3 in anticipation for the Andromeda release. I figured if I was ever going to try "Citadel" now is the time.
