Unable to launch

I installed the game from steam. I went to launch the game. The loading bar pops up for a few seconds then nothing happens. I have no idea what is wrong. I have tried everything. Reinstalling Directx as well as C++. I know my computer is strong enough to run the game. I have an i5 processor and a decent video card. windows 7 64bit. and 16gb memory. I went into the program files for the game and got the launcher to come up but when i click play the same thing as before happens.

    Some steps for "ME1 Won't Launch":

    1. Ensure you have at least game version 1.02 (absolutely required to run under Win7 or Win8).

    New EA/Origin installs, including all "Trilogy" ones, will be more recent.  But Amazon, or GameStop, or others may still have older copies.

    (Steam users who do not have a current version will need to talk to Valve.)

    2. Set MassEffect.exe to run in "WinXP (SP3)" compatibility mode.

    3.  Ditch (uninstall) the Steam verison get the EA/Origin one.  Your porduct code is valid, so no charge.
