I know they don't want to walk in the shadow of ME2-3 as much as possible but making that the polar opposite of EDi I sure hope they're not making canon. Let it grow and develop... or at least set it up for more straight man routines. It doesn't have to tell jokes at the push of a button like some kind of joke dispenser... but it should get to develop a sense of humor... even if it develops a fondness for shaggy dog stories or complex puns or something. That is part of what makes us human.

I would like to see more moments in the future of SAM developing its own personality and making suggestions to Ryder based on that personality- which she can then either go with or against. I think it would show a more defined difference between the two. Even something more simple like 'you can shutdown the forcefield this way' and Ryder nah ill shut it down like this instead. There is times it feels like the only smarts Ryder has is SAM.With studying the remnant on Sara she should at least be more knowledgeable about studying an alien species and Scott more with combat - their own skills need to be reflected better. Maybe they could even teach SAM a few things beyond just being human. Surely it can't know *everything*. [ Edit add ] I want to feel more like Ryder is making accomplishments - not just SAM. Like SAM is assisting Ryder but also learning from her experiences and own knowledge. Like Ryder could still manage to survive Heleus without SAM but the AI makes it easier. Gimme my hero.

He actually managed to work those Remnants on his own. That's supposed to be something, and we hope he'll show more of his own evolution in due course.

i like this idea, but a combination of good and bad jokes... and a few jokes so bad they actually become quite good.

SAM is just boring.... Its not so much the jokes, its also the personality. Simply put Serious And Monotonous(SAM).

Poor SAM *was* handicapped from the start. It has certainly heard enough banter by now though to be able to pick up something... anything but jokes straight out of a book.

Well, I get they didn't want to do an exact repeat of EDI, but at the same time they did do their best to make SAM impersonal and unlikeable really. Just out of curiosity, did anybody else notice that in SAM node on the Nexus SAM looks like a digital version of a testicle hanging down? Just saying...

There's also the Ancient AI, which looks like it was based on GLaDOS. At least the maniac vibe is there.
They could hire SAM for Bioware's Communication Department though. He would remind us of a new patch all the time, so we wouldn't sulk into oblivion.

Edi had Joker and Shepard to help it develop, so joking seemed like a natural evolution. SAM has more responsibilities and direct connections to organic personalities (pathfinders). I prefer that it was more of a narrator than a participant in the story. To me, it fit well that SAM didn't have much personality. I think that it is 'too big' to have one personality.
Synthetics were done extremely well in ME1-3. It could even be argued that defining the rights of created beings was the core theme for the games. That is a lot for one (too big) Ai to live up to.
I think it would be an interesting exploration if SAM 'created' new Ai without permission. The implications and questions around 'synthetic reproduction' would become an extension of the ME1-3 "synthetics and morality" theme. SAMs child Ai could be given / linked to Ryder as a replacement while objections and suspicion lingered. It would be more interesting to see this smaller Ai develop a personality.

Lot of interesting ways they could go with SAM. Benefactor, theme, stand in or polar opposite for EDI, friend, foe, or symbiot... but I don't want the "bigness".☹️
At least for the first episode, SAM is more the protagonist than I am. I get to make some decisions and "drive"... but it is more than a little like sitting in Dad's lap and playing with the wheel. I'm okay with SAM being dad's favorite out of the three of us - but I want to play *me* in the game instead of SAM by proxy.
