Well I'd say some of it is space magic to assume what we humans are able to do now and just extrapolated from assumptions and lore with advancements in the universe. Also, they didn't exactly say much about how the scans worked. And considering the Geth are a very strong AI with hive mind and processing power who knows what they were able to do with space magic scanners then lol. But maybe it was never actually seen that it was viable truly. Could also have been because things were sped up by the timeline changing due to Reapers that they pretended everything was fine but it really wasn't and didn't tell anyone except maybe Jien Garson since she was murdered.
I was thinking the same thing ...lol
Geth could've had waaaay more information than the rest of the Milky Way species. Maybe they already traveled to Andromeda without sharing that information. For Geth is easy, they only need batteries to live....They don't even use windows: "Structural weakness" hahahaha

Not gonna spoiler tag in this thread which is clearly going deeper into things. Don't read this if you haven't completed the game and fear spoilers.
It seems to me that the Jardaan had big plans for this part of Andromeda. Their complete and utter absence on Meridian or in any of the vaults (not even bodies or images), tells me that the Remnant were sent out and the Jardaan didn't come along.
Perhaps the Jardaan were suffering from the Scourge and tried Terreforming a new part of the Universe so they could settle there after making some planets viable. Perhaps they didn't have any particular area in mind and the Remnant were scouting as much as breaking new ground.
So it could even be that the Jardaan have become extinct before their plans came to fruition and the Remnant are but an echo of their creators...though a powerful one.
And perhaps the Scourge was unknowingly created by the Jardaan and as such the Remnant brought the problem with them as a big ironic slap in the face.
The vaults were clearly there for terraforming. Two of the towers were still working on Havarl and humans had nothing to do with that. But was that all that the vaults were for? It seems creating life forms was also part of the design. Life forms that would be able to thrive on the terraformed worlds, like the Angarans. But there is that issue of the Angaran AI. Why did they have a higher level of technology way in the past? Or more to the point: why did they lose it?
But for me the larger question is not what the real purpose of the vaults is but of Meridian. When you go terraforming other planets, why would you need an inside-out pretty much perfect-looking planet....or is Meridian the outcome of a Heleus-sized lab test...
Yet I seem to remember Meridian was there before the terraforming started. I need to get to the end of my current playthrough again and get some more input 😉

I'm only on my second play through and can't remember everything from the first, but I was under the impression that the Scourge was purposely deployed to counter what the Jardaan were doing.
As in, I feel like they stated this somehow/somewhere in the game. But I don't remember so that could have just been a fever dream I was having, lol.

"
- When we settle down at Habitat 7, they estimate Remnant technology is several hundred of years old."
I'm pretty sure that this isn't accurate (or breaks the history as laid out). I chalk it up to either a writing goof or something. The Jaardan pre-date the scourge, created the Angarians and their main tech appears to be devoted to Jaardan-forming planets. There's even a message that this is Meridian's great task to make worlds viable (and alludes to an old war that wiped out planets).
