Weaker Barriers Since June Update ME2

@EA_Mako

Playing on Xbox One X, I’m halfway through Mass Effect 2 LE after having imported the same character from a previous Mass Effect 2 LE play through. All was fine until I updated my game. Afterwards, I noticed that my shield strength is ridiculously low and no amount of upgrades will resolve this.

Before, I was capable of initiating a biotic charge on enemies and then lighten them up with either the shotgun or incinerator. Now, it only take a couple of hits and I lose my shields. This must be a BUG because… who in their right mind would nerf something like this, it practically nullifies close range biotic combat.

Please look into this as my current play through has been neutered, my defensive capability is now a joke. Im getting wasted while fighting only Blue Suns when, before, I could hold my own against Collectors. If this is the new normal for Mass Effect, I’ll become a loyal Gears of War fan very soon.

  • This is happening on ME3 as well.  2-3 hits & shields are completely gone even on Normal difficulty.  Squad mates are being 1-shotted in many instances when previously they could take more hits...  Seriously, I fail to understand how a so-called "patch" can break things that worked previously.  As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT...

  • @dominolabustierI'm currently playing ME2 right now, and you're right, I do notice that my shields are going down ridiculously fast even on normal difficulty. I'd peek out of cover for just a mere second to cast a skill and all my shields would be gone (and this is only against basic enemies). I found it a little strange, but it didn't occur to me it might've been a bug. It's been so long since I played the old ME2 that I figured it was supposed to be like this. lol.

    Ah well, I'll probably just grit my teeth and push through. God knows when the next patch will be and I'm not planning on waiting another month for it. Luckily, I'm playing an Engineer so it isn't too bad, but yeah, I can imagine how frustrating it can be for a Vanguard.

  • Strange, haven't noticed that. It seems fairly normal so far. I play on Hardcore.

  • @szaumoor You're playing on Hardcore difficulty, not Normal.  On my end in ME3, shields are being shredded in mere seconds & upgrades at the Intel terminal aren't affecting it.  This is on an imported level 60 ME3 character that has already completed the game once before.  EA broke several things with the latest so-called "patch" on 6/7/21 & they need to fix it.  This is precisely why patches SHOULD NOT BE FORCED ONTO PLAYERS & an option to downgrade to a previously working version of the game be made available...

    Watched your video and I can confirm that I am definitely having issues with my shields. Compared to your gameplay, my shields literally can’t take two bursts from a single enemy, unlike yours. My gameplay looked like yours pre-update June 7. Now, I can’t even take half of what you show, and I have to spend most of a battle behind cover while my squad fights. This is not what a Vanguard is supposed to do.

    This thread is not new. Would you please comment as to whether or not you’ll take any action on this?

    Alright, I’ve completed my Mass Effect 2 LE second play through just about an hour ago and I can now state the following:

    My issue with having “two shot shields” is an intermittent one. On some missions, my shields were normal, and I could take a pounding before they depleted, similar to the videos posted by szaumoor. On other mission, especially N7 side quests, it’s as if they were powered by a 9v battery.

    luckily, this only occurred once during the Collector Base mission, but weirdly, it happened mid mission, on my run to the last ventilation duct button. I used the Singularity Weapon (really fun here) and, therefore had only one normal enemy (armed with standard Collector Rifle and red barriers only) left to stop me. But he hit me twice and my shields dropped completely, as well as a chunk of my health. One more shot killed me. When I resumed, this didn’t happen and my shields worked as expected.

    most importantly, and with two play through’s deep, I’ve noticed this bug doesn’t occur until after Horizon. When it does manifest, it’s as if my shields are twice as weak as they are when playing Freedom’s Progress on the very first play through. It’s also constant with the Blue Suns related side quests… weird, that 🤔

    since I’ve not seen EA_Mako comment here, I’ll simply message EA_David and see if anyone from the Community Management Team will forward this along to the developers, at least to see if they can duplicate it.
