What is the possibility of Mass Effect™: Andromeda getting Mods?

Please read all of this.

This may not be a question that everyone will care about, but I am a sucker for mods. I love the ones that fix glitches or gameplay mechanics, improve performance or just make the overall playing experience somewhat better (such as HD or cooler textures).

Right now I'm torn between pre-ordering MEA (Super Deluxe Edition) on either the PS4 or Origin. My PS4 can handle the game really smoothly but if MEA gets mods on the PC like the original trilogy has, it would make the game 100x more fun for me. I don't want to do a gamble and buy it on PC if it doesn't get mods, I just want to make sure.

There were a lot of mountains to climb to achieve mods in the original trilogy. Applying a DLC patcher, getting ME3Explorer and fiddling about with files until you finally got what you wanted. Also using mods on Mass Effect 3 in multiplayer might lead to a ban (I wouldn't know because no one plays it unfortunately).

So I'm wondering what EA or BioWare's stance on mods for the game is. I've heard that the Frostbite engine is notoriously hard to mod and that DA:I modders had a very hard time as well. Maybe they would turn out to be like the DLC folder mods that people have made, where you just simply drag the folder into the game's DLC directory. Who knows. I hope that BioWare would at least make a modding tool sometime down the track of the game's lifespan or at least help out with modders to make their own tool like ME3Explorer.

Thanks,

Dayvo.

  • Hi @DJ_dog210

I moved your post to the Andromeda thread.

As someone who use and create mods myself I also would like to have a tool set aka easy modding capabilities.

The problem is that Bioware did not create such tools for DAI and also not for ME3. Furthermore, I don't think that we will get any infos about this before the game is released.

It is also true that Frostbite is very hard to mod. So all in all I doupt that there will be a tool set or mods early available.

If the game becomes as beloved as ME1 - 3, people will find a way to create mods, but there is no guarantee.
