What Multiplayer Needs Going Forward

The vague things stated in the patch notes look like steps in the right direction (but idk almost been a day and still no details on that so... cool) but here are still some underlying problems that exist in multiplayer that need to be addressed soon. I will list them in order of importance and if you agree please upvote and comment because that's the only way they see 🙂.

1. Character Progression.

Character leveling in the multiplayer is so incredibly slow for a few reasons. Firstly, characters don't level as a whole class anymore, they level individually. I understand why because of the whole mix/match skill thing in singleplayer but I believe that feature, to remove leveling as a class, is the most important thing that is hurting multiplayer and it def. needs to be changed back to how it was in 3. The character selection screen was a lot more sleek and aesthetically appearing as well by selecting by class.

Character leveling is also hampered by the lack of bonus xp for "any/any", which means random for map and enemy. In ME3 there were hefty bonuses 25/15 ish percent xp if you chose random, now there isn't. This was a good feature and rewarded challenge (since yes some factions are just more difficult. In Andromeda it goes Remnant, Outlaws, and Kett). This should come back soon as well.

Also xp just seems to be gained slow, a small 10 percent increase to all xp would be nice.

2. Powers and Their Lack of Effectiveness

I didn't see mention of powers on the vague list of changes and as of now we still have no details so here we go. A vast majority of powers suck in Andromeda. There are very few classes in the game that run a solely power build and be successful. If enemy health is reduced tomorrow, it would help but I think cooldowns are also a major problem. Even with 100 percent recharge speed, your core ability (say turbo charge for solder) has a 10-15 second cooldown. That is just far too long for a class that relies on gun damage. Biotic charge has a low cooldown, that and melee damage being viable is why the meta is play melee/vanguard or go home. I have a few simple solutions on how to fix this. You can either just reduce a lot of power cooldowns and increase damage on them (slightly if enemy health is reduced) or what I think would be better would be go back to a 200 percent cooldown system. The minimum weight mechanic so you can have two weapons and retain max cooldown speed is nice but it's not a bonus anymore. "Oh hey you are using low weight bad guns your powers recharge at NORMAL speed now". I propose lowering the minimum weight but making the bonus 200 percent. This way I can run low weight guns that don't do anything and still be effective on power classes. (Singularity ESPECIALLY needs a cooldown buff, that cooldown is insane).

3. Skill Points from Card Packs

At first, I thought getting more skill points from card packs was cool, but then I realized it's only cool because it's easy for my common/uncommon characters, but it's hard for everything else. (I am going to squeeze 4 into this point too just to not have this post too long, it connects so yay). With characters requiring rank X to be the most effective, it creates an issue, of where rng directly affects your strength. It kind of does so with guns, but not like how skill points do. At rank X of a character, you get 25 skill points. That is huge. That is almost maxing out a single skill. A rank 1 character isn't nearly as effective as a rank X, and I think this can be solved with two solutions. Characters should only go up to rank 5, and each rank provides 5 skill points. This way it's not as much of a grind and lower rank characters (say rank 2 or 3) can be more close to the max rank character. (This is where point 4 comes into play) I think the amount of credits you get per match needs to be increased. It has been researched that it would take 450 hours of non stop gold grinding to get everything in the game CURRENTLY. That is absurd, and I think I know why. Full extracting on silver only grants enough credits for ONE tier 2 pack. That's not ok, especially with how much more of a challenge Silver is from bronze. Here are my proposed fixes for credits (not all of these need to implemented but atleast 2). Completing objectives faster no longer rewards bonus credits, this needs to be implemented. If you get a weapon/character/mod out of a box that you don't want, you can scrap it for credits. Not an insane amount of credits, but not a pitiful amount either. The amount of credits for completing missions simply needs to be increased. For full extractions, bronze should reward 15k (without time bonuses on objectives). Silver should award 40-45k (without time bonuses on objectives). Gold should reward 55-60k (again, without time bonuses). I can see how Silver would allow you to get an absolute * ton of basic packs, but really none of that stuff is that great and eliminating a lot of the grind for common stuff really wouldn't be a problem, if anything it could help players ease into harder difficulties (which I hope are easier with the enemy/gun changes).

These are all the changes I propose, again if you agree please upvote and comment. Thank you for reading.  (Re posting because it looks like it didn't post the first time)

  • Interesting points, but I think the idea now is "just get used to it." 🙂  This is no longer ME3 multiplayer as we remember it, it's a whole new deal that takes new effort and getting used to.  Of course balance changes and tweaks will be forthcoming, so there's always room for some improvements.

I know, but most of the things I listed make it a downgrade to ME3. Slower progression across the board doesn't make for a better game. Getting everything in ME3 was pretty tough on it's own. Making it worse here is nothing we should keep quiet about

first and foremost they need to stop letting people with third world internet connections host! 5 megs down and 0.3 megs up is NOT sufficient to host a multiplayer game!

  • Here's my thoughts I thought I posted this in it's own thread but it has disapeared a minute ago:

Aside from constant crashing , weapon and power balance issues the multiplayer is great, but going back and playing ME3 you really see a lot of things missing. The starting cast of MP characters are largely generic aside from a few. If you look at ME3 you have a large cast of exciting and interesting characters with abilities completely unique to that character and MP. Where is that here? I understand many of those were DLC characters, but I was expecting that to be built upon and was hoping for a stronger cast at release as that is it's predecessor.

I have every character unlocked and once I hit 20 on all of them there is not much progression to go from there. There is no reason whatsoever that I can see to relevel a character other than the very minuscule APEX rating gain - which you can get by playing just a few games anyway. You still gain bonus stat for playing a level 20 as far as I can see as well. I will say this though, yeah bonus stat is nice, but to be completely honest you don't even need it. The game is very easy as long as you are playing with a halfway decent squad, even in gold. I held off on playing on gold for awhile, but when I jumped in  it was extremely disappointing at how simple it was. As far as I can tell ME3 was harder, but then again, movement is much worse. Challenges were much more in depth, more rewarding, and there were a lot more of them too. I want more progression.

Enemies should be tweaked as well, in my opinion. Such as Nullifier which is worth 330 points, if i remember correctly, which fires extremely slow, with a VERY slow set up, and on top of that does not even fire all the time. I'd like to see more enemy types and or new move sets. Weapons need to be tweaked heavily. The vast majority of weapons are completely obsolete compared to the select few that are actually the only ones that are pretty much viable. I can't even think of a single assault rifle that is viable, except for the grenade launcher and that can hardly even be called one!

  • Yeah nullifiers are some other boss-ish enemies are pretty easy. But some others are b.s. Your basic standard enemies have a bit too much health, like raiders and adhi and such. The bosses actually seem pretty well balanced, maybe like 5 percent less health would be good, just to keep the pace up.

Hazard Maps with bonus XP for completion.

Seriously I thought hazard maps was one of the most awesome features in ME3: MP.  Even to date I haven't seen another game with maps like that where there is a regular and hazard variant.  (I'm sure they exist, but still).

Except it has to be real hazards, not a stupid bar on the bottom corner of the screen.  I have ideas I'd like to share, don't want to hijack your thread, but I want to see this in our MP future ;p

    1. The Kett can have stasis fields/traps on the Derelict map - or since it's right in the map's description, they can have the Scourge there much akin to the scourge spires throughout the single player, but obviously for a hazard variant they would have to be Strewn through doorways and such to make it difficult to navigate.

    2. Firebase Magma could have an active volcanic map, where the entire map shakes periodically, and stone/magma rains from the sky as explosive projectiles.  Forcing us under covered areas.

    3. Firebase Zero is totally a ripoff of Firebase White from ME3, you can tell they used it as a reference 😉 So I would say the hazard should be the same as in that game - viscious blizzard winds that limit visibility severely.

    4. Firebase Sanstorm - they could once again copy an ME3 map and go with a Sandstorm, I mean come on - it's right in the name.  But I think something like semi-powerful dust devils being whipped up and throwing enemies around, and occasionally stunning or even throwing us as well, would be cool.

    5. Firebase Icebreaker - I'm sure if you read Firebase Zero you were like "why didn't he say that for Icebreaker" - well I think Icebreaker deserves a something bit more.  They could take the Kett heat lamps form Single Player - or the Angaran ones, and do like they did for Voeld in the single player.  Extreme cold hazard and we have to warm up throughout.

These are just hazard ideas for the current maps, but whether any of this could ever happen is up in the air, these are just my wishes.

  • tbh i would love to see remnant architect boss fight in the mp maybe a different mode

Remove that god damn "Disable Devices" objective.

EVERY * TIME i get that stupid task, the game kicks me off of the device and i lose a * load of progress... All of this * while the enemy faction is just shooting away...

Also who ever designed the Kett: Ascendant... I hate you... I hate you with every fiber of my being. Why does it take 2 Rockets to kill one? 1 to kill that * shield, then 1 for the actual guy....  Did you NOT hear the infinite HATE for Auto-Killing enemies back in ME:3? Its like common sense is so rare its a * super power now...
