Can others still hear me even if voice chat setting is off?

Hello there. Can anyone answer this question for me?

In Need for Speed Rivals, I disabled the voice chat in the audio settings section. Even though I did that, when I am looking at the map, if I bump my mic or make some sound, the chat icon appears next to my name as if I were speaking. When I don't say anything or make no sound, then of course no icon appears, only when the mic detects sound. My concern is that other players can hear me even though I disabled voice chat in 'Audio Settings'.

Does anyone know if others can still hear me with this setting disabled? I might have to just tilt the mic up on my headset and even then, I am not sure if I will be totally silent to players?

I don't want others to hear me and I like to blast my music when I race so I don't want to have to not use my headset. The music in this game isn't that good IMO. XD.
