Cars stuck in reverse.

After loading, all cars, regardless of cop or racer selection, are stuck in reverse.

I use the keyboard for all other racing games, including older versions of NfS. I do not own a controller and do not desire to aquire one.

I wonder if the controller, or absense thereof, is the issue since there is no way to disable it.

Any help is much appreciated.
