Game Corrupted from Save Game Transfer Steam

I've been playing NFS HP Remastered for a while now. Trying to get through and get gold medals and everything. I purchased the remaster on Steam, so I run it through there.

I recently switched to a different computer. Everything was working fine when I installed it and began playing. I was a little sad that my remaster save from my old computer didn't transfer over. (Later I saw that cloud saves are an option in Origin that I could activate...).

Anyway, found a post about physically transferring save files from one computer to another. I had done it with other games before with success, so I tried it. Found it in Documents\Criterion Games. Copied it from the old computer. Pasted it in the same place in the new computer.....

Game won't start. The Steam launcher activates Origin just fine, and then the game itself doesn't boot. I tried launching it directly from the Origin client, and it didn't work there either.

I guessed there might be a config file somewhere that I overwrote accidentally, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I didn't copy any of the save files over. I just wanted to start out vanilla. This also didn't work. In fact trying to start from the Origin client, Origin says that I don't seem to have the game installed.

I read a post on clearing Origin's cache. Did that with another reinstall. Same result. Ran repair on all of the C++ packages. Same result.

Interesting note is that it didn't rebuild the Documents\Criterion Games folder.

Since a reinstall won't work, and I have dug into a bit, I'm at a loss of what to do.

Again, it downloaded and ran perfectly before I tried moving over the save game file.... and of course this is the one time I didn't copy the original.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Update: Got it to work!

    Uninstalled Origin and the game.

    Downloaded ccleaner

Used ccleaner to fix all broken registry entries related to the game and Origin.

    Rebooted the computer.

Fresh install of game and Origin.

    Got the game to launch!

Now to see about them cloud saves...

None of that worked for me, but apparently by disabling Cloud Save, then launching the game and then immediately going into Origin and setting it to offline mode worked for me, to play multiplayer all I have to do is reset Origin back to Online mode, managed to play a few online matches without getting any Corrupt Save File prompts or crashes in the process.
