HOW DO YOU UNBIND THE WHEEL INPUTS!?!

ok , listen  I understand that you need to unbind all the wheel controls to user a 3rd party controller or an input mapper I get that Ive read that ok, do not link me to that thread my p...

    OK 

    after hours of trying to unmap the stupid wheel bindings to get my steam controller to work,

    I REALIZED

    wheels are DirectInput, steam controller/inputmapper is XInput....

    SO JUST BLOCK THE DIRECT INPUT VIOALLA PROBLAM SOLVEDED

    OK--- FULL TUTORIAL:::

    STEP 1:
    proceed to set up game normally usin your controller, for instance i have a steam controller, so i had to:
    a) disable origin overlays
    b) add nfs16.exe to steam list
    c) ALWAYS OPEN USING BIG PICTURE 
    ---- NOTE: FOR OTHER CONTROLLERS I AM UNSURE but i believe it involves using x360ce to make a modded xinput.dll and copying it to the NFS folder.
    ----  in that case, good, this next part should be easy for you

    STEP TWO:

    Obtain a modded dinput8.dll designed to block all input from any direct input device
    i got it from here, but idk if i can post links in this ea forum:

    just google "directinput blocker" if you dont trust me or the links gone


    step 3: 

    this ones real easy, navigate to your NFS16 install directory, usually c:\Program files (x86)\origin games\need for speed

    AND DROP THAT MOTHER IN THERE. 
    DONE

    ENJOY. set up your controller in steam or whathaveyou and your good to go fran

    TOOK A WHOLE YEAR FOR A REAL NERD TO FIGURE THIS OUT? REALLY
    ugh ea just make the games the way we want them, it cant have been hard to add a "disable wheel" switch somewhere

Dude, I've been having the same problem for AGES and could only find "solutions" where people would tell you to unbind the wheel commands, but, like you, I could never remap any buttons to the frickin' wheel!

So, when I found your thread, I thought it was a godsend. I'd been trying to use both an Xbox One S controller (either via Bluetooth or paired with the Xbox Wireless Adapter) and a Dual Shock 4 (via DS4Windows), with no success. I downloaded the file you linked, copied the DLL (dinput8.dll) to the game folder (where NFS16.exe is located) and... IT DIDN'T WORK!

Now I'm about to cry, because I don't know what else to do. Controllers are still messed up and I STILL can't remap/unbind any buttons on the wheel. Do I have to do anything else other than just copying and pasting that DLL to the game folder?

    sorry man, copying dinput8.dll to that folder worked immediately for me,

    then again im using the steam controller, which uses its overlay stuff to emulate xinput while the games running, youre having problems with an xbox one controller? 
    those are supported arent they? ive used mine with no problems whatsoever. are you on windows 10 @EeK9X? ive never set up the DS4 for nfs16, but my friend has one, you should try using steam to configure your DS4 or XBOX one controller, and then copying the steam controller method.

    ie: try this:

    step one, open steam big picture, go into settings at the top right, then controller settings and check the ds4 and xbox support boxes.

    step 2 restart and replug all bluetooth adapters, wireless adapters and controllers

    step 3 add nfs16 to steam and do the dinput8 blocker thing

    step 4 profit

    sounds to me, though, that youre having a problem with all controllers not just 3rd party ones. whens the last time you reinstalled windows, or if youre using windows 7, stop, those controllers work like * on win7

      Hey, buddy! Thanks for replying!

      I'm on a fresh installed copy of the Windows 10 Creators Update, with all other recent updates installed.

      The only way I get a controller (Xbox One) to work on NFS is if I connect it using a USB cable (wired). Wireless, either via Bluetooth (for the Xbox One S and DS4 controllers) or the Xbox Wireless Adapter (for regular Xbox One controllers), messes up the inputs.

      I also have a Steam controller, but didn't bother to add any EA games to Steam and have been playing them using Origin itself. I'll try your method of adding the game to Steam (where all controllers work just fine - XB1, PS4, Steam) and will report back if it works!

      Bad news, @NErdg0d. Tried the Steam method (adding NFS to my Steam library) and configuring the controllers there, but I'm still having the same problem. Inputs are all messed up, and I STILL can't unmap the wheel buttons.

      I tried connecting a regular Xbox One controller (Elite - non-Bluetooth) using the Xbox Wireless Adapter and it seems to work, even if the unmap wheel issue remains. I'd rather use the Xbox One S (Bluetooth) controller, though, and that one has the same problems as the DS4 and Steam controllers.

      At this point, I'm not sure what else to do.

      @NErdg0d Years later and this is still an issue. Your thread here is the only thing I've found that could potentially fix (non-Xbox) controller inputs being scrambled. Even when owned on and launched through Steam

      I'm using a PS4 (DS4) controller and nothing I've tried has worked. E break locks up, buttons get mixed around, its a mess. I've tried using DS4 Windows, and that kinda works, but it results in sluggish steering.
