See, yesterday @MrB34rdy posted a link to an article writen on help.ea weeks ago that said this:

This was a real confirmation of multiplayer freeroam in the game.
Some minutes ago, I entered this same link, and realized that it had been edited!
Look at what it says now:

Conclusion: THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE MULTIPLAYER FREEROAM. EA promised it on that post and now realizing they have made a mistake, edited it as fast as they could.
DISSAPOINTED.
There is online freeroam, but in lobby mode, very short, just multiplayer mode is more long.
How is that mode? U can be in lobby mode with a friend?
For while this is "wait mode" lobby, but the world is free and so the next speedlist loads, I can to play with a friend but in speedlist, if the my friend and me stay out of the event also.

- Yes indeed you can enter the lobby with a friend, but there is no free roam mode really the free roam there is, is just to wait for the race to start.
That is a loading screen and nothing more. It is not a proper multiplayer free roam, and should stop being claimed as one. You cannot host car meets, you cannot run into and meet new people, and if the host starts the race at any moment, you get thrown into a race whether you wanted to or not, as you may have been cruising around with others.
Payback is built on the same game engine as NFS 2015, removing multiplayer free roam took more effort than it would've if it was kept in the game. So there is NO excuse for it not being in the game, and the fact that the speedlist loading screen puts players into the world together for a brief moment, means there is NO reason it can't be the same drop in-drop out multiplayer free roam like in NFS 2015.
All that, is if you ignore the fact that it was a promised feature, that was only very recently removed from their official post, most likely after the majority of preorders had already come in.
Everyone should refund and boycott Payback UNLESS Ghost games addresses and fixes this. It's not difficult to patch back in, and they know it. Let's see if they listen to community feedback, like they claim.- Stop trying to boycott Payback.

I'll pick the game up again if they add it but from what i've seen (roughly 30 threads from various sites) nobody knows.
So it's probably a sign thay it may be in developpment but what's to say we won't pay for it.
As it is they've added online drift speedlists (dec19th) but no drag. So the game remains incomplete even after three updates
The true release date should have been 2018 because people are gonna start dropping the game if they haven't already
might as well just download game then wtf is that lobbie whith friends thats calld lan not a online game
When I saw this I thought to myself that if they were to take this Lobby Freeroam and just tweak it and patch it up they would have an easy fix to this issue
