I have finally discovered the cause and the fix. The game will crash at the main menu if there are any recommendations in the "Players You May Know" section. I had get to enter that section before the crash occurred and get a screenshot of what it said. The crash happens fast so you gotta be quick. What worked for me was set my phone to record video of the tv screen then just watch it back instead of trying to fumble taking a picture in a split second time frame.
So anyway, mine listed "PLAYER A" because they are mutual friends with "PLAYER B" on my PSN friends list. First I searched for PLAYER A on PSN to try blocking them but they weren't found. So I tried deleting PLAYER B from my PSN friends list and..... VOILA! The game works perfectly fine now.
One of two things is happening. 1) PLAYER A no longer exist so it crashes trying to load their data. Or 2) Having ANY player populated in that section causes the game to crash so you have to remove any users from your PSN friend list that are recommending other users. Imo it still seems like a bug with the games "Players You May Know" section that EA needs to fix. The reason it worked on a different profile without crashing wasn't because of being linked to a different EA account. It's because that section in the game wasn't populated with any player recommendations.
Please report back with your own findings.
EDIT: Before deleting anyone from your PSN friends list, there is an option in the games settings menu to disable friend recommendations. Maybe try to get into there and see if it can be disabled before the crash. If that works, then no need to remove anyone. Please report back.
