Need for Speed: Payback - Community Concerns

First of all, I'd like to state I am not giving any hate to any developer, only my feedback as well as some of the communities.

Need for Speed Payback has taken up to 2 years to develop, that's nearly 730 days and I'm personally finding it hard to see what's changed so far. Of course, we do have more added cars, more customization, a chance to find and build classic cars to supercars day/night system but what about the things we really want?

The story mode I must say is a lot better than NFS 2015, no cringy cutscenes and no more annoying phone calls, but what's really shocked me, where is online free roam? What do we do when we finished the story mode? Online races? Will there now be DLC story modes? Do we really want that?

I mentioned this a while ago on Reddit, the automotive scene has changed and it just makes me think if any of the developers are actually automotive fans? Yes, we love illegal street racing, yes we love ridiculous mods, but one thing we really are missing is the community. Now we don't have Online Freeroam, it's a lot harder to show our friends our creation and have fun on motorways (apart from races).

We now have YouTubers who love to create cars and record them (mostly on GTA), this is something I believe EA/Ghost should have grabbed onto and created a somewhat online community.

I wrote a list of things I wanted (not expected) in Payback:

  • Back flames on vehicles more realistic (looks exactly the same on NFS 2015)
  • More vehicles, maybe add cars packs as DLC's which I believe people might actually buy
  • Community. Website to share our wraps, create car clubs, host events etc.
  • More variety on music (not important) / somehow have a link between the game and Spotify
  • Point of view camera
  • Interior customization
  • Online character
  • Online storymode
  • Online showrooms
  • Online free roam...... (can't believe I had to actually add that in, sorry EA/Ghost but really?)
  • (I'm sure there's more of what the community wanted)

My biggest concern is once the story mode is completed, what then? Online races and that's it? My friends have already stopped playing the game once they've completed it.

This should have been a game that we wanted to play every time we got from work and school, something like your FIFA, or Call of Duty but now it isn't, very sadly.

I hope I do manage to get in contact with someone who helped developed this game just to bring closure to this and explain to me further on the decisions when creating this game, yes it's not their job to satisfy me but I generally regret purchasing this game, especially the deluxe edition as I'm sure no developer likes to hear that.

*P.S - Someone mentioned to me about off-road racing, drag, drift etc. It's something I believe we don't hate nor love.

** - Online mode is buggy and ranking system doesn't work as attended

    Hi !

I just wanted to add my part of all of this saddeness. ( who said MADNESS ?)

I finished the game and really enjoyed it so far! Now that Criterion games isn't making any Burnout anymore, only NFS is lefting.

I'm not going to say what everyone is saying already but the fact that the online isn't really appealling ( to a lots of people i can see) is most worrysome for the future of the game!

Now you got positive points ! I didn't played the NFS 2015 but i got my hand on Most Wanted wich i loved. The tunning right now is pretty nice ! And i do love to do very cool paintjob to showoff to other peoples. You got a lots of details for car tunning, like the kind of brakes and all, tires and everything else, the smoke color too ( Ryo Watanabe for the Win ah ah !)

I loved too the multiple easter eggs to Pro Street wich i loved too ! ( Nate Denver and Ryan Cooper perhaps in the Outlaw's Rush I am right ? 😛 ).

and there is a lots of other thing that i'm not talking about.

You know, I don't really NEED the Forza Horizon kind of graphic, NFS is an arcade driving game : all is about fun, and fun is mostly with PEOPLE.

But right now the fun is only in solo mode... enough said.

    * Oh and i'm not giving hope for the future of the game, just do your work Ghost, we are behind you ! ( no really !)

  • also if they add online free roam why not add a online ch232322321at like it was in NFS World and what about online rewards are gotta get better card parts than the offline free roam ?

I've replied to this topic, but for whatever reason, my message got deleted.

  • 1. I would suggest the ability to upgrade any car to rank 399.

My favorite car (Lotus Elise / Exige) is limited to rank 299. I'm sure there are many other people that wanted to be competitive in their favorite car, only to find out that they can't.

Honestly, I was expecting this to be a given, considering that this feature was in NFS 2015.

    2. I just found out that the Koenigsegg Regera and Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 are overpowered, compared to other cars of the maximum rank, proven by a very skilled player:

...Balancing car performance in general would be nice, even if every car isn't capable of reaching rank 399.

Its not impossible to win, but very hard as ****...and with luck probably.

I even recorded the whole race, but i can't share it there i guess.
