The first time it worked for me a few days ago, I had a stable connection for the whole time that I was playing, until I personally manually logged out. So no problems at all during that whole session. The next time I logged in (which was the one I told you about initially) I lost the connection mid game. So like you said, it could be the servers. Although where I live I don't have stable internet (I'm only using wifi hotspot from my phone), so it could be that too. There was also some lag in the game as well, like pursuit tech not activating straight away with 1 or 2 second delay. Same with nitrous. I was still grateful to be able to get online anyway. I hope it works again for my future sessions. I wonder are EA trying to fix the server issues, because I haven't had the game that long (bought in the Need For Speed Ultimate Bundle for 20 Euros) and the first time it worked, but then all the times after that it froze on the title screen until only a few days ago when it started working again ?
In your case the issues could be caused by either your internet or the server, but either way the EA server do have an problems which unfortunately they wont fix.
