I've also try to install the game on my laptop. It don't work either and show the same error.
I've finally got it to work by disabling the firewall of my internet box (router).
After that everything work great and I can now play the game. 🙂

Turning off a firewall is accepted as a solution? Wow!
Anyway I have tried everything to try and get he game to connect, is it really 2016 and I am having to muck about with ports and firewalls to get a AAA title working on a perfectly normal setup?
I really don't know where to go with it.

Well, the purpose of a firewall is to block network traffic. Since Need for Speed requires a persistent internet connection it relies heavily on your network settings, which includes a firewall.
The player himself also specifically stated that changing these settings is how he managed to get back into the game. It is definitely worth taking a look at..
