NFS Heat launches with a windows and quits (Still....)

I have been having the issue where NFS Heat launches in a Black Window and quits after about 6 seconds.
Pretty much started with this issue back in November upon the game's release, and have been trying ever since.
I've been taken through a maze of "things to try" but nothing seems to work. I've held out hope that each patch would make the game work to no avail.

The community member managers have pretty much given up on helping me in any kind of serious way. This problem seems to get ignored until I disappear into the night.

I have done a reset install of windows, as well as a format and start from a fresh install of Windows. Game still quits either way.

1. Clean Origin Cache & Reinstall Game
2. Disabled Nvdia Surround
3. Try running with just a single monitor connected
4. Try ALT+Enter before game quits
5. Uninstall & Reinstall the Game
6. Try using a Cleaning tool like CCCleaner
7. MSCONFIG, disable all non-Microsoft Services, reboot and tried game
8. MSCONFIG, boot in Safe Mode, reboot and try game.
9. Reinstall VC Redistributables
10. Wait for v1.4 Patch
11. Reset Install of Windows 10
12. Upload dxdiag information
13. Repair the Game & Reinstall, Clear Cache again
14. Wait for v1.5 Patch
15. Try https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/HDR-issue-on-PC/m-p/8772161/highlight/true#M5251
16. Try Right Click "Run as Administrator", on both Origin & NFS Game
17. C:\users\yourusername\Need for Speed Heat\settings told to delete PROFILEOPTIONS.
18. Included sample CashDump File, screenshot of dump file, mentioned that all other NFS games, all work fine
19. Disable AV and try again. 2. Yes, I use Malwarebytes, and have disabled it in one pass to verify it wasn't causing an issue, and in a second pass, I removed it entirely and of course in my clean installation of Windows, initially, I experienced the crash before I had installed the AV.
20. Disable Origin In Game Overlay.
21. Disconnect any uncessarry USB or other hardware.
22. Same as #17 but deleted whole folder.
23. Try under different Windows Account -- Creating another account on the machine. Yes, I created a new local account with administrator privileges, rebooted, and singed in as that user, completed the origin login, and launched the game. I have some news for you. It also crashes.
24. Regarding clean boot -- As mentioned in the original posting, I can confirm that I disabled all non-Microsoft services, rebooted and get the same results. I also completed a Safe Boot with Networking and it also crashes.
25. Try reinstallation "now waiting until" 100% complete. Same, no effect. Never tried to launch before installation was 100%.
26. Game was digital copy purchase.

27.  Although, not very playable, the game does not crash on my Microsoft Surface Book 2.

ASUS CROSSHAIR HERO VIII - WIFI (x570)
AMD RYZEN 3900X
DUAL DELL U3417W Displays
2080TI (Asus Strix)
NVME RAID 0 (RaidXpert)
32GB RAM

Really looking for help & anyone who is willing to see this to some sort of conclusion. I seem to get that many people have gotten past this. I've witness the game successfully launch maybe 3 times out of 100 or more launches. Once I RDPed into my machine and the game launched remotely (though not really playable).

I wanted to offer that I have over 500MB of crash dump files that span from November 14th all the way through to the present. Some 345 dump files.

If I had to speculate, I'd assume that the issue is somewhere in the proximity of the 2080TI and the Nvidia Driver. I'll repeat, every other EA/Origin game I own including several NFS titles all work fine on the same hardware. I have numerous other games from Steam, Ubisoft, and Microsoft Studios that all work as well.

  • @jpwalters1 Try to update everything. First uninstall gpu drivers with ddu. Install the latest drivers from nvidia. If it still happens update your Windows. If it still happens update your motherboard bios! If it still happens update your chipset drivers. And if it still happens idk man.
  • Certainly appreciate the ideas.  The Windows installation is fresh as of April 3rd, so pretty much a clean installation, with the latest Nvidia drivers on top of that.  The idea of uninstalling though may be worthwhile.  The AMD drivers are definitely the latest and greatest.  I saw some recommendations for the Studio drivers rather than the Geforce Experience Game Ready Drivers.  I can try to play with that, but I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to stick to playing all the games that do work and chock this one up to a loss.  I've spent hours and hours because I'm a dedicated NFS fan.

  • Good news! I have finally found the main reason why NFS Heat crashes with a brief show of a blank screen at startup.

You need to remove XBOX Game Bar from Windows. To do so, simply open Powershell and run the following line:

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

Then run the game in compatibility mode for WIndows 8. To do this, right-click on the game executable or its shortcut, click on "Properties", go to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select "Windows 8" and press "OK".

Let me know if this solves your problem. 🙂 Happy gaming.

P.S.: If you still have issues, in addition to these two steps, do everything everybody else is proposing such as disabling other gaming overlays and installing/updating DirectX, VC++ Runtime, Graphics drivers, etc.
