Ok as a former NFS World veteran here's the thing about the 2 NFS games.
NFS 2015 has nice customization for about 1/4 of it's entire car list. The physics when it comes to grip racing and drifting feel very unnatural, you could almost say that it feels like you're on rails. The free roam was just a regular session based system with 8 players max per session. in a way like Test Drive Unlimited 2 was, but nowhere near as good.
NFS Payback on the other hand has really nice car customization on what appears to be every car. the physics for grip racing or drift feel really good (and this is coming from someone who was 100% sure the game won't improve on the really bad things 2015 did). I haven't enjoyed playing a NFS so much since Pro Street. Multiplayer however is strictly speedlists for now (a.k.a. joining races). Everyone is hoping they'll add online free roam like 2015 had but at the same time actually improve on that aspect since even the online free roam in 2015 was kinda dead.
Hope it helps you.

To actually have a server based game like nfs world these days is just an unrealistic dream...
