NFS The Run keeps crashing

Just bought Need For Speed The Run and it crashes after I finish every race in Stage 7 - Chicago Approach.

I've tried:

- turning down the graphics

- repairing the game

- reinstalling the game on a different drive

The issue appears to occur most frequently on resource- intensive races, such as those with mob cars and helicopters.

The crash itself occurs with the game freezing momentarily then closing with no error message.

Laptop is connected to Acer external monitor screen through DVI cable. Also connected to new Xbox One 1708 remote.
