[PC] NFS:MW 2012 crashing in multiplayer

The game has been working fine for a week or so, after that it keeps crashing in multiplayer, usually when the speedlist ends and the final score is shown.

I have a fresh Windows 7 installation, even re-installed the game, but it doesn't help at all. I think it started after patch 1.1 was implemented.

It just crashes to desktop with the following message:

    Hi everyone,

We’re sorry to hear you’ve encountered this issue.
I have found some messages with a similar error message so I have merged all posts here in order to assist you.

@b13l5proposed a workaround that worked for him here.

    Other suggestions

You will find below general information for fixing the issue

    Spoiler

There are several possible causes for a crash such as this. Please follow these troubleshooting steps:

    Check Minimum Requirements

Check your computer's specification against the game's minimum requirements. You can determine your system's specs using DXDiag.

    Update Graphics Driver

Frequently, users with a system that meets all system requirements can still run into crashing or performance issues if their graphics driver is out of date. A graphics driver is a piece of software that makes a piece of hardware work better.

Learn how to update your drivers here: https://help.ea.com/article/finding-devices-and-updating-drivers

    Close Background Tasks

Your computer likely has a number of background tasks running at any given time that may interfere with your game's performance. You can attempt to shut these down manually, or perform a Clean Boot Startup.

    Disable UAC

f you have a Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system, and you are experiencing crashes to your Desktop when you try to play games, we recommend checking to see if you have User Access Control (UAC) turned on.

If you have UAC turned on, you will have to momentarily disable UAC in order to get the games to stop crashing. Follow the instructions below to check if UAC is turned on and disable it.

You should only have to perform these steps once.

    1. Open up your Control Panel.
    2. In the search field, type in UAC or User Access Control and press Enter.

      User-added image
    3. You should now see the UAC Control Panel option as pictured below.

      User-added image

If the Use User Account Control (UAC)... option is checkmarked, then UAC is turned on.
    4. Uncheck the UAC option and click OK.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Once your computer has restarted, launch your game.
    7. Leave the game running just a few seconds for good measure, then exit out of the game.
    8. Open up Control Panel again.
    9. Search for UAC and hit Enter.
    10. You may now re-enable UAC and click OK.
    11. Restart your computer again.

This workaround will help your system run the game without crashing to the Desktop. You should now be able to launch your game as usual, without crashing from now on.

You should only have to perform these steps once, you do not have to perform these steps every time you want to play the game.

What anti-virus and firewall programs are you running? They may be conflicting with the way Origin tries to hook in to the game:

Try clicking "Origin" in the top left of Origin, then select the "In Game" tab and uncheck the box which says "Enable Origin In Game".

What I have suggested is by far not a work-around. If you consider the restarting of the game every time you get into an already running speedlist then your definition of "workaround" is so immensely flawed that you and the rest of the company should get some proper education about what some words in the English language mean.

Furthermore, you can merge all the topics you like, but the problem still persists and we (the consumer) do not feel like we're getting helped at all.

To give you a little example as to how amateuristic the service is: a long long time ago people could only buy their games in a store. You know, with the big boxes and stuff. And yes I am from that generation where online purchasing was not something that even existed. Anyway, the thing is, when people bought those games and online patches were not even there, the game WORKED!

Nowadays it seems it's all about cramming the games down people's throats and not ever giving a rat's ass about the quality you (the developer) are supplying. It's been a long while now, and still there's only been 1 patch that doesn't even address the stability issues. Or even the complaints about, let's say, the voice issues.

The game is poorly designed (a rightwell rip-off of the previous versions and the map is from Burnout anyway), there seems to be no idea about what actually works in the game (beta-testing is a thing of the past? if not, then you'd better combine an IQ-test with the beta-test because the problems are so obvious that even my blind cat can point them out). And lastly, you have taken all this time, all this effort, and not to mention all this money, to eventually keep all your consumers in the dark about what the hell is actually going on.

Oh yes, DLC! Let's do that! Well if it actually were some sort of ADDITIONAL content, I'd reconsider my viewpoints. But seeing what is coming up, it's just the same freaking cars with the same freaking stats all over again! That's not ADDING content. That's diversification of the existing content, and at that not a great deal of it!

Yes I am royally pissed off about your support, mostly because I know how it's meant to be done (from my own experience working as a support technician and supervisor). And still you seem to be content with the level of service you're giving? I'd actually wish you yourself had to contact "support" somewhere and still get nothing in return for weeks on end. Maybe then you'd actually "get it" and start working your asses off for all the money we've already given you.

You obviously have not found some messages, or you would know the problem exists on ALL platforms, and is an issue with the game itself.  It has been reported many, MANY times over the past month and a half.   You would have also seen that the only known work-around available to us is to simply quit during the last event of a speedlist if we know that the game crash is imminent.  You fixes read like a script from tech support that we all already know will not resolve the issue.

Your post of cookie-cutter workarounds is the first actual aknowledgement that there is, in fact, an issue.  It's disrespectful to claim the issue is with the environment.  We, YOUR CUSTOMERS, deserve some sort of good will on your part.  It's even more a slap in the face that game breaking bugs, like this one, haven't been aknowledged yet, let alone a given a projected date for a patch, but you're willing to shove paid DLC at us.

I'm sorry if this seems terse.   The customer service when handling these real issues with the game, that must be addressed by the developers, has been horrendous.  The frustrations we all are having are starting to bubble to the surface.  Also, I apologize to you, because I am, in fact, just shooting the messenger.

No worries dasmoof I am not offended and I can understand some reactions here, however I am not going to comment on this as this would not provide any help to players in this situation.

What we can observe here is the error message displayed. That the reason why I have merged posts with a similar message in a single thread. The issue has to be isolated; a game crash issue is different than an issue with the loading screen but both were reported on the same thread.
I have found valuable advices provided by players so I also quoted some suggestions or observations.

Any similar error message with the same issue posted here will be useful as well as constructive comments.

Sorry, but I have to call this one:

    Disable UAC

Are you serious?!  What with having to suspend antivirus AND the amount of ports I've had to open in my Firewall / router (I have no idea why it needs that many, by the way).

This is meant to be a game, not a major vector for cyber attack!  Not to mention the problems you'll get if you install something with UAC off and then turn it back on at a later date.

Asking a user to disable UAC to fix a bug in your software is just not on.  Compromise the whole system to fix bad coding in one piece of software?  Sorry, but wow.

My NFS MW 2012 also crashes to desktop all the time... While accelerating, loadinga race or driving high speed. It's good to say that you need to update drivers/windows/Direct X, or to turn off services and/or processes.

But the problem still exists, not only for me, and when people still say THE GAME IS CRASHING, EA still says 'update everything, turn off UAC, clean boot, Origin ingame off', and so on. No patch or update for MW 2012, thats what we need: no windows or driver update, but a MW 2012 update!

Cracked version of MW 2012 worked fine, on the same system. But now, with Origin and DRM, it fails. An other reason why piracy rules!

I think it's not illegal to have a cracked version installed while having a product code for that game? It just works better!

  • The issue lies with Origin and Criterion Games, they rushed a good game, and it got shipped out too fast; now it looks like unless they really redeem themselves with the next Burnout game, I won't buy another racing game from them or EA until these issues get sorted out - I haven't been able to play my £40 game for 3 or more months cause of some stupid speedpoints loading bug - it's extremely easy to fix, yet they won't do it, this disappoints me.
