Re: Crashing While Launching

Hello all .

As much as for some this has fixed the issue , others are still finding issues, so to help out here are a few options.

1. GPU Drivers & Windows Updates.

as always with new Ea Games check your Graphics Drivers are up to date.  this also includes Windows 7, Netframe work 4.+ (you kinda need this to install the latest drivers)

" Nvidia, yeh im looking at you..  "

Note 1 : do the install the proper way.

  1. 1. Uninstall the old driver
  2. 2. reboot
  3. 3. Install new driver
  4. 4. reboot

Note 2 : made sure the GPU control panel is setup corretly and like Nvidia Control panel "manage 3d  settings" > program settings > NFS Payback (if found) is set to defualt (global)

2.   Disable EA Origin Game Overlay.

this has been an old golden rule since the day go of origin and ingame overlay.

Load Origin > click on Origin (left top corner) > application settins > tab "origin In-Game" > Enable Origin In-Game > Disable.

(also if you do , (you shouldnt use it) , disable "Display FPS Counter".

3. Run as Admin.  More Windows 7 then Windows 10  but still a goodie.

Find your Install path   , Normally it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\   (for Secondary drives see my additional notes below)

locate your game .exe and  right click > properties > compatibily tab   , at the bottom is "run this program as an administrator .

Note : That in Windows 10 you can also set compatibility to Windows 7, this is not a good option but worth a try if nothing else works.

Secondary Storage Install Location : it has been found (me personally) that Origin has issues reading and writing to secondary drives.  use the above "run as admin"  with Origin.exe to start origin in Administrative mode.

4. Modify the Profile  (not for poking around in and  some   CC can detect modified files as cheating)

 So locate your save profile.

   Windows 7: C:\Users\spar\Documents\Need for Speed(TM) Payback\settings

Windows 10 just look in your "my Documents" and \Need for Speed(TM) Payback\settings

You are looking for "PROFILEOPTIONS_profile" Create a copy and save it in an different folder.  if you have it go to step 1.  if you do not go to step 2.

Option 1.   Right click the file > select "open with"  > "notepad".

you need to located text "FullscreenEnabled 1GstRender."   this must be changed to 0 , "FullscreenEnabled 0GstRender."

ALSO.  locate and do the same for the following :

MotionBlurEnabled 0GstRender.   (make sure this is set to 0)

ResolutionHeight 768GstRender.

ResolutionWidth 1024GstRender.

Change the Resolution Height and width as you wish or match above to run tests

You must now click File > Save .     do not use "Save as".    attempt loading the game.

Option 2

You will have to create a "file" this can be difficult but if you have the previous NFS15 save then it can be worked around.

Located the same Above file ""PROFILEOPTIONS_profile" copy and save to the NFSPayBack file location.  open with Notepad and Delete contents and paste in

GstAudio.DynamicsEnum 2
GstAudio.MusicModeEnum 1
GstAudio.MusicVolume 0.300000
GstAudio.PoliceScannerOutputEnum 0
GstAudio.PoliceScannerVolume 1.000000
GstAudio.SoundEffectVolume 1.000000
GstAudio.SpeechVolume 1.000000
GstAudio.StereoMixdown 0
GstAudio.Voip 0
GstAudio.VoipCategory 1
GstRender.AmbientOcclusion 1
GstRender.AnisotropicFilter 1
GstRender.AntiAliasingPost 1
GstRender.Brightness 0.500000
GstRender.DisplayResolution_ID
GstRender.EffectsQuality 1
GstRender.FullscreenEnabled 0
GstRender.LightingQuality 1
GstRender.MeshQuality 1
GstRender.MotionBlurEnabled 1
GstRender.OverallGraphicsQuality 1
GstRender.PostProcessQuality 1
GstRender.ResolutionHeight 1280
GstRender.ResolutionWidth 720
GstRender.ScreenSafeAreaHasBeenSet 1
GstRender.ScreenSafeAreaHeight 1.000000
GstRender.ScreenSafeAreaWidth 1.000000
GstRender.TerrainQuality 1
GstRender.TextureFiltering 1
GstRender.TextureQuality 1
GstRender.UndergrowthQuality 1
GstRender.VSyncEnabled 0

You then click on File > Save .    this will save it as if it is the profile.

At this point, you should be able to load the game up and run.

if .. you still have issues

I really hope EA Fixes them for you.. or watch that console get ever bit closer..

I have tried everything in here and I still cannot get the game to launch (it also appears in task manager for 2 seconds and then closes). Tried everything, nothing worked. The only thing that changed is once I created the folder (it did not exist) and added my NFS15 files (for testing), it asked if my save data was correct, to use cloud or local. So the folder name is definitely correct, but the game still does not launch. Anyone have any ideas?

Also I managed to get some details about the details about the game process itself that tries to turn on. Can anyone confirm if the values are as they should be?

And here's also all the modules this process is trying to use, probably useless info, but none of the solutions has worked for me so far.

GOOD NEWS, I RESOLVED THE ISSUE!

So we were investigating it together with Technical Advisor Sareem and Specialist Nicky from EA support team and eventually I found a solution and it was so well hidden as well.
At some point I decided to use my notebook to check if it would be a workaround. The only reason I though about it because my PC uses i5-3570k, which is a 3rd gen Intel CPU and the oldest in the recommended settings is a 4th gen one. But it has 4 threads, so it should not be an issue. The notebook is an recent MSI Leopard Pro one that has 6th gen CPU and GTX 1060. Origin was never installed on it.

So I booted it up and installed the application from here: https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/download
What I immediately noticed is that the UI was completely different. So I told Sareem about it and he was rather surprised. Apparently my PC version of Origin was severely outdated. I tried to find any way to force it to update but I could not find any.

    PC - 9.12.0.34172
    Notebook - 10.5.5.6040

So I let the notebook to finish downloading and installing and launched the game. It worked. Hopes went up... "Could it really be the Origin application itself" I thought and told Sareem.
Since there was no way to actually update my outdated PC version of Origin, I had to fully uninstall it, download it from website and install the V10 version.

And it WORKED. It resolved the issue and the game launched and played fine. Therefore if any of your are still having this issue or new people find it, do this:

    1. Uninstall your current Origin application from Control Panel
    2. Download Origin from https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/download
    3. Install Origin and launch NFS Payback

PS! You do not have to uninstall the game when you uninstall Origin.

Thank you again EA Support team for your efforts!

Nope, did not work for me. My version is already V10.XXXX and even tried reinstalling it, same *. Its like queuing for an iPhone for 10 hours and finally getting your hands on it to find an android OS when booting it up.

@dYn_MoFoInteresting, I did also completely uninstall all of my Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 and 2013 from control panel and then downloaded new ones from official microsoft pages and installed. But I doubt that is the solution for you. You could still try. Did you also try to manually create the profile folder under My Documents (if you do not have it). I did not have it, but I dont know if it was part of the fix or not.

Nope, I gave up and refunded the game entirely. Figured they don't deserve my money if they're gunna dish out half Ssed games at launch at that kind of price.

Time to request a refund... Does anyone even care that people spent $70 for a game that doesn't even RUN??

I see that my other response has been erased, any specific reason why? [ beside the inconvenience of truth from constructive criticism  ].

    I can confirm Dryminator's advice - DEFINITELY check your Origin client version (under Help -> About);

** If your installed Origin client isn't at least ' VERSION 10.5.5.6040 - 0' [the latest version available for download as of this writing 7:57pm EST 11/10/2017] - and haven't already - please do yourself a favor and update it using the Origin update link Dryminator provided:

    https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/download

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (Version 10.0.16299.19), and encountered the same "click to play NFS Payback - nothing happens" issue many of us have experienced... performed all the helpful steps outlined by sgtdryke and others with no luck/frustrated...

The ONE thing I failed to take into account was the Origin Client VERSION (** I foolishly disregarded this step out of hand as I already had a months-old copy of "Mass Effect Andromeda" installed - which ran AND continued to run normally throughout my own NFS Payback troubleshooting ordeal...

Updated Origin, pressed Play on NFS Payback (sat back expecting nothingness), when BAM! - full black screen, game finally loads!

A Big thank you to Dryminator, sgtdryke (XP bumps given!), and everyone who's shared their experiences with this issue (both reporting & aiding those in need - I hope the game itself isn't as difficult as the 'install'...

@steve_tthYou can try going through all the other steps that have been mentioned in this thread as well. Not going to re-copy them, most of them are on page 2.

@steve_tthCan you write here as detailed description of your issue as possible? I just want to make sure that you are experiencing the issue that is discussed in this thread as there are so many different "crashing to desktop" cases reported here in forums and this solution resolves only one very specific one.
