Re: Need for Speed crashes every few minutes

@mrgoatwaffle1

Which version of the R9 are you running? It doesn't show on the dxdiag.

Your dxdiag does look fine. I can see NFS16 crashing due to a kernelbase.dll error, which relates to profile corruption as was mentioned earlier in this thread. However, you've stated that you've already tried a different Windows user..

I see that you are playing on three screens, just for testing purposes, could you try running the game with one monitor?

@Konduur

Could you upload a dxdiag as well? Would give me a clearer picture than just the system specs.

As for the language error, this can be resolved by reinstalling Origin.

  • It's a R9 280x.

    Yes, I created a second user and logged into that account, and still got the same crashes.

    I will try disabling the other screens

    Yes, it still happens with only one screen enabled.

    I screenshotted the error that comes up also.

    Hi @mrgoatwaffle1

    If you have a Motherboard for gaming ( and i think you have) then you have a BIOS settings consolidating with specific overclocking programming, which have make your overclocking much more straightforward :eaoops:🤨... but this overclocking programming is enabled by default  and clearly they destabilizing your system.

    Go in overclocking section of motherboard and  disabling this feature for your procesSor AMD and for your videocard AMD.

    And do not forget to tell me if you solved..mate 😉

    Since everything looks normal on the dxdiag, and you've tried all the steps listed in this thread, I do have on more suggestion. You mentioned something about the MSI Afterburner program, sometimes when a gpu is overclocked too much it can crash in demanding games (such as Need for Speed). Did you by any chance overclock your card, if so, could you try lowering the settings?

    I actually have the same type of card as you do (one version lower, the 270X + FX-8320), so I am unsure why it keeps crashing for you as it hasn't crashed yet on my system.

  • Neither my CPU or GPU are overclocked.  I only installed the afterburner program because it was suggested to me to monitor the temperatures, which were normal.

    My wife has a PC nearly identical to mine (same processor/RAM/video card), and I am able to load the game and play on ultra settings on her computer, so I can only conclude that there is some kind of software conflict or corrupted files on my system.

    Thanks for the help, I'll post the solution if I find one.

    It does sound like there might be some corrupt files on your system. A System Refresh would be a good option in that case.

    Lastly, thanks for coming back to the forum and updating me on your situation. It would be much appreciated if you could post the solution when you get it working. But at the same time, I understand if you would rather spend that time gaming.. 🙂

    Have a good weekend.. 🙂

    @Straatford87 I had some unrelated issue on my Windows installation recently so I decided to format the PC. I took the opportunity to retry NFS along with the new installation. I did not carry over anything from my previous install. I have reinstalled all drivers and updated my BIOS (for other reasons) but understand that everything is up to date. There is very little installed on my PC except games clients and Chrome. I like to keep my gaming PC clean and without anything running in the background.

    I reinstalled Origin from scratch and NFS and keep having freezes and crashes usually after around 20-30 min of gameplay. The FPS goes down and the sound is "stuck" then it gives a white screen and tell me I was disconnected from the network. Same as before.

    I have no problems on any other games and I'm playing a variety of them. This is NFS related whether you're willing to admit it or not.

    Here is the DX Diag you asked for in attachment.

    I doubt there is an easy fix on my side but a bit of reassurance that you are acknowledging the issue and working on a patch would be nice. It's not really playable in its current state for me.

    Cheers

    When you get disconnected with the white screen, does the entire game crash, or do you get send back to the main menu? I am asking this because it might also be a connection error; losing the connection can momentarily freeze your screen.

    Your dxdiag looks clean and you've stated that you cleaned your entire PC. Since you more than meet the minimum requirements for the game I see no other reason why you should get a game crash.

    The only thing I noticed on the dxdiag is that your Origin crashed several times thought I am not sure why. If you haven't done so yet, please also try the steps in our main PC troubleshooting thread.

    @MADpenvt

    I see many errors where you entire system seems to have crashed with a blue screen. This means there are issues with either your Windows installation or your hardware configuration. Please refer to a System Refresh.

    @MADpenvt

    If you did an upgrade, opposed to a clean or fresh install, then you will run into errors as some of the drivers and installations on your system aren't registered properly to your new Windows 10 installation. This might also be the cause of the many system crashes visible in your dxdiag.

    Please do a System Refresh to make sure that you have a clean installation of all programs and drivers.

    @Straatford87 When the game freezes (FPS goes down to 1 or 2) then it goes to a white screen and either of these happen:

    1. I get a message saying I was disconnected from the game server, press Enter (or A on the controller) and it brings me back to the main menu and then I can play again until the next freeze.

    2. I get a message saying I was disconnected from the game server, press Enter (or A on the controller) and it gives me an error message saying my region is not compatible with the game. I reinstalled Origin to fix this but even then it wouldn't work. I can't use the US English region on the game, I have to use French to avoid this. This is particularly annoying.

    3. The white screen stays on and I have to force quit the game from the Task Manager.

    For both 2 and 3 I need to also force quit Origin from the Task Manager otherwise when I try to restart the game it takes a long time and then Origin tells me an instance of NFS is still running even though there is nothing in the Task Manager.

    I believe me killing Origin is what made the "crashes" that you see in the DxDiag.

    Sometimes but rarely I lose all control on the PC and cannot even use the Task Manager forcing me to hard turn off the PC. This has happened twice before I formatted. Not since.

    I used both Cat 6 Ethernet Cable and a Asus Network card for Wifi with a strong signal. I use VPN and other online games without any connection issues. My internet is not very fast but stable enough.

    I tried disabling Origin In Game before formatting but didn't try it again since. I don't believe it's that simple but it's easy enough to test it. I also disabled UAC and I have no antivirus, only Windows standard Firewall.

    Hopes this helps you finding the issue in the game and fixing it.

    @Straatford87 I see the topic has been accepted as resolved by @mrgoatwaffle1 following your suggestion to reformat but I have done that and the problem keeps popping up. Any other ideas? I can't really progress in the game when it crashes like that...

    Cheers!

    @Konduur

    I resolved the topic as the issue seems to be fixed for the original post, @mrgoatwaffle1. If you continue to experience issues I would recommend to create an msinfo file and contact a Game Advisor so they can do a more in-depth investigation on your system. I'm afraid that we went through all steps on the forum.
