Yeah, I have to agree with you, the checkpoints have become way too repetitive in many games.
Sometimes I just pull the game and go back to older games that don't use so much of this checkpoint *.
Some of the older N.F.S. games are good to warm up on the old PS2 system time to time for me. LOL
I hope you're otherwise kinda enjoying Payback game.
I have been playing Dirt 3 lately over on Steam.
It's has been kinda fun for an older game.
