In the case of the McLaren and all other Super cars, once you install a black part is already maxed out. Only hyper cars as CCX can upgrade a black part with scanners and other materials

@NFS_Sandro - I believe it works differently. For all sports, super and hyper cars you can upgrade legendary (golden) parts and they do become black 7* parts. They require some more materials, including scanners (up to 16 for hyper cars). What may have confused you is that we were able to get 8* black parts directly when participating in BRR preseason.
Which is in line with all other part upgrading during the game, when there never is a direct step that adds a star.
- @HeretikJirka I suppose you are right as I just upgraded black parts in super cars with BBR pre season rewards, while I have "manually" upgraded from golden to black parts in hyper cars
